Had blood tests and results, I'm within my range. I explained all my symptoms to the doctor but he doesn't believe it's thyroid related.

I had a tt about 6 Yeats ago. The last blood test was just tsh and in range, I can't believe he doesn't think it's my thyroid or lack of it instead he is testing me for CRP, ESR, IFSH, ILH, LFT2, UE, and GLFAS2, im not sure if any of these are thyroid related or not. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi You can really only tell about the thyroid with the tests for TSH, T4 and Free T3. If GP will not do all 3 ( cost) then you can get them on line ,use a reliable Lab that you can show to GP and he will accept. With any blood test ,always ask the receptionist for a print out with ranges ( different Labs vary), as often if a bit out, GP says OK. If that is the case you will need a repeat test in 3 months, if you.Receptionist should give you a print out, your blood. There are other bloods ,also, relevant to thyroid but start with those.

Best wishes,

Jackie

I see you're on 225 thyroxine, but with no Thyroid. Could be you need T3, as you're maybe not converting the T4 enough - T4 can work for some, but without a Thyroid? maybe for a while - this is only what I've read, but I see posts time after time. Also NDT contains all the T hormones, which you will lack as you lack a Thyroid.

You really must insist on a FT3 test - that's the active sort, needed for every cell in your body to function. Also did they take your parathyroids too? these control calcium, as does Vitamin D (not just a 'vitamin').

It's very likely, being hypoT, that you will be deficient in various vitamins/minerals too (check irons, folate, ferritin, B12)- despite some docs ignorance about Vital minerals! Were you under the care of an endo before? Perhaps it's time to find another one. Meanwhile Selenium helps conversion, and magnesium helps too (even if only brazil nuts and epsom baths)

PS I'm no expert, just someone who's had a partialT trying to help. Best wishes Jane :D

Have him check your vits and iron like spareribs said it could give similar symptoms to hypo. I know what a few of those tests crp is to check for infection, lft is liver function test ue is urea and electrolytes(kidney function) glfas might be fasting glucose but dont quote me on that if you google them you can usually find out what the other ones are. It says to me that the doc is not sure what hes looking for. Good luck

It is unfortunate that some GP's insist on keeping patients with thyroid problems 'in range' whereas Dr Toft ex of the British Thyroid Association

This is a link for private testing if GP is not co-operative.

thank you, all your input is greatly appreciated, I've been asked to do a repeat blood test (fasting) and the doc wants to see me, I'm going to take a list with me so i don't get muddled up :-) I think I still have my parathyroids, i was on calcium wth vit d for about 3 months after the opp but the doc took me off them. I was in hospital for 4 or 5 days after the opp, they didnt give me any thyroxine until the day of discharge and that was only because I kept telling them i needed it. I was under the consultant until about 3 or 4 years ago, he discharged me when he had just got my levels just in range not long after I had my daughter. can i asked to be referred back to him or is it up to the doctor??? anyway I'm rambling now!

Thank you

tracey xx
