Hello

My latest blood test shows that my vitamin D is slightly low: 45 nmol/L (50 - 150). Can anyone recommend a vitamin D supplement please.

Many thanks

B

If you want to get vitamin D from foods, you can use this online database:

Hi,Do you know that vit D is best to be supervised by an Endo as it is hormonal, failing that a GP. No other consultant is "allowed" to advise on it as so complicated. In food it is fine. of course, most people do have to resort to DIY. However, vital to have a corrected calcium test first as D can cause it to go over range, if high. Corrected calcium must never be over range. You also need retests of both after 3 months treatment, then annually at least.

Best wishes,

Jackie

Thanks Jackie. My GP is happy for me to sort out supplements and is happy to test. My corrected calcium is fine.

look up 'the vitamin d council' and 'grassrootshealth' as they have a lot of info about it. The uk uses mmol/L which is different to the American measurements, so you need to convert , there will be somewhere online to do this on one of the sites I mentioned. Birmingham hospital does a nhs test by post for around £26 if your gp won't help. I take 5,000iu through winter and last time I did a test it was at the top of the nhs scale, but this is set low compared to the American scale for 'normal' so more would not be a bad thing. Check out the site and decided what level you want to achieve and go for it, making sure you take the companion supplements so your body can use it.
