Is it quite simple to rectify a conversion problem of T4 to T3? It has been identified for me and am wondering if there is a simple reason possibly for this and also if it can be treated with nutrition or in herbal way? Any help on this greatly appreciated. Thanks Ali

Conversion problems from T4 to T3?
...I think the only way is to take T3. I too had a conversion problem for over seven years on T4 - then combined and finally went T3 only last October. Taking B12 and having Iron and Folates at the top of the ranges should create the right environment within the cells to improve conversion. B12 works at a cellular level. Do you have anti-bodies ? Having a healthy gut also facilitates improved absorption.
If you want to try supplements, you could try Nutri T- Convert. It is suppose to help with coverting t4 to t3. You could read about this product on Nutri website.
Quite simple.... hmm... probably not... But it is definitely possible to improve T4 to T3 conversion with profound lifestyle changes and it is certainly worth doing.
Two things are key: stress reduction and nutrition.
Stress of any kind (physical, emotional, mental) triggers a whole lot of reactions in our bodies which impair the conversion. Certain nutritional deficiencies contribute to the problem, but no nutritional supplementation will fix the problem if stress is not addressed in the first instance. There is no magic pill that will send this problem away.
There's plenty of research out there... I'm pasting an article here.

All the very best.
The thyroid gland needs selenium, iodine and some zinc to convert T4 to T3. You could try a supplement that includes these nutrients to support your thyroid. I agree with 'Chquitita' re addressing the emotions and stress. Toxicity is another big factor in blocking thyroid function. Chemicals in toiletries, cosmetics, non-organic foods, leaching from plastic drinks bottles and heating food/drink in plastic containers, cling film and heavy metals are all toxic to the endocrine glands. Dr Durrant-Peatfield's book's a good resource for all this information
