So that people can understand your question better, please tell us what your medication was before and what your doctor has changed it to now.

When was the TSH test introduced? I have a feeling it was less than 30 years ago.

I'll echo what people here are saying. Let us know what medication you were on before and what you are on now. How did you feel before and how do you feel now? Symptoms? Also get your blood test results and reference ranges and post them.

Your doctor may be perfectly right but there is also a fair possibility that your doctor is going only on TSH (pituitary gland) and not actual thyroid blood tests (T4 and T3). This does happen to people.

But mostly, how are you feeling?

My thyroid has been underactive for over 20yrs and in January a blood test showed I was receiving too much thyroxine. My dose was lowered in January, April and again in July. Waiting for my next test in October to see what that brings. My Gp said this is common.

It's common for GPs to look at nothing but the TSH test and reduce medication making people ill again. How you feel is what is important.

If you were overactive you'd have definite symptoms, probably fast heart rate, high temp, hand tremors and you'd feel ill.

You need to post the test results with ranges.
