Private, please.
Dr Khalid Ahmed at the Cromwell Hospital in London was brilliant in my case. He is really really good and is a Consultant Endocrinologist. I went to him after my GP had carried out tests but found that I was 'within range' and therefore left me with the words 'its down to age' (55). While I spent 2 years going in and out of hospital collapsing with 'low blood pressure' (so low that they kept flicking switches because they thought the machines were malfunctioning), constantly sick, completely fatigued with a permanent brain fog, the NHS Doctors just kept putting it all down to different age issues.
Eventually after 2 years of hell I went for a full MOT at Bupa and mentioned this fact and the Doctor advised me to go private as they felt it was probably glandular issues and felt that I needed more tests. I would have given anything and paid anything to feel better again. I went to Dr Ahmed one day and a couple of weeks later I was on thyroxine. I didnt really like the fact that I was on tablets for life and inititally fought his advice, finally realising that when I took the tablets the real me came back and when I didnt I felt like I was dying. Ive now been on them for 12 months and I can stay upright, think with clarity and havent been sick for the whole of this time. Thanks to Doctor Ahmed the real me finally came back.
