Just got this email through and thought I would post for people on here, I would assume the changes will effect all private labs.

Returning Samples to the Laboratory - A Change in Procedure

To comply with national & international regulations governing the carriage of biological substances, the Royal Mail postal service have restricted or prohibited certain items from their network. Therefore in order to avoid any sample rejections Genova recommend using the APC courier collection service envelope enclosed with every test kit. The fee for this service is £12 payable when returning samples.

However, your patients may wish to seek an alternative courier service, which they can do so.

Bank Holiday Monday 26th August 2013 Closing

In order to avoid any sample rejections over the Bank Holiday, all samples must be received by the morning of Friday 23rd August 2013.

Please note: The laboratory will not be able to accept any samples on this Monday.

Thanks Moggie. This is being investigated. It looks like you can use Royal Mail but you have to package samples according to these guidelines and it only applies to packages where the total volume weight is 50ml/50g or more. If the packaging provided by Genova complies with these regulations there shouldn't be a problem. This is just one of the places I was able to find this information.

Might have know thyroiduk would already be on the case - hopefully I will be "on-line" at home by tomorrow evening so will be able to check my emails at home and not have to rely on my works computer any more.
