What are those results (T3, T4, TSH?) and what are the reference ranges. It's a bit difficult to tell what's going without that information. If you can post the info hopefully one of us might be able to point you in the right direction.

Ok, that's probably your TSH and T4. It's difficult to tell without the reference range for the T4 because 15 could be lower end of the range going by most reference ranges but by the reference range at my local lab, it would be above range.

If you are feeling hyper at that level it could be that you are on slightly too much thyroxine even though your bloods are in range.

There is also a possibility that your iron is too low. Serum iron needs to be well within range for most people and, for hypothyroid patients it seems a ferritin (stored iron) level of 70-90 works well. There was recent research to show that women in particular with a ferritin level below 50 benefited from iron supplementation.

Iron is needed for your body to use thyroxine properly. If you have low iron you might not be using the thyroxine very well resulting in a build-up in your system and that could be causing your symptoms.

Have you tried reducing your dose to 50mcg to see what happens? If you feel better on 50mcg, perhaps that is a better dose for you. You may even find you are best alternating between 50 and 75mcg on alternate days.

If you can, please do get your iron and ferritin checked and get the results too. B12 and folate are also important to check and low levels could be contributing to your tinnitus. Vitamin D is another one that people tend to be deficient in and might be worth checking if your doctor will do it.

I hope that helps

It won't be a waste of time because if it's not an ENT problem the specialist will say so and your GP will need to look at other causes. Your ENT specialist may even make suggestions for investigations if they're any good.

If you look at the symptoms of hypothyroidism tinnitus is one which is mentioned:

Really? Gah ... I've had increasing tinnitus for years, but I put it down to the Lisinopril!

Hi,

Everytime from now on, especially with thyroid gland blood tests, ask the surgery for a print-out of the results which should have the ranges too. We are entitled to copies.Keep them for your own records. As labs ranges differ throughout the country it makes it easier for members to comment.
