You can, once you are properly medicated. When I was on T3 only (thyroxine doesn't work for me) I used to run regularly and go to the gym and was in great shape. A size 8 - 10 with a flat stomach.

I am about 5 stone heavier now since being switched to thyroxine (which doesn't work for me!) but I am getting that back under control now my medication is changed again.

Most people are fine on thyroxine and one you get the right dose and make sure your iron, B12, folate and vitamin D levels are good you should be able to improve your shape again. It does take work though, but I think that's true for everyone to a degree.

I hope that helps

I'm still waiting, My levo has been increased in increments, now 75mg, I have never weighed so much in my life even when pregnant, it's pretty demoralising especially as I don't think I eat that much (or the wrong stuff)...

I have been wondering if my podgy belly is age related (33) or thyroid/health related. Wondering if there is anything I can do to get rid of it or if it is there for good :-( Have been reading up on it and various things can lead to a big belly. High insulin (too much sugar/alcohol), cortisol (too much stress), bloating/fluid retention. My stomach was flat until a period in my life when I was undermedicated. Then I developed the belly and its never gone away.

I was told this morning that once my medication is all balanced out there is no reason why i shouldn't get back to what i was.The doc told me that my levels are only just Underactive so not to bad.
