New things and more testing

I finally got my last results yesterday although I haven't yet got my own copies. On the upside there were improvements compared to the last ones and my TSH was smack bang in the middle of the range. So I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. I accepted this but didn't accept any treatment (I'm stubborn) as yet. I have also been given a referral to a rheumatologist.

Today I woke up tired and aching due a busy day the day before so had opted for a slow day. The post arrived with one parcel and a letter. The parcel was my new nighty (soooo comfy), the letter was from the doctor....

I have been asked to have another test, for T4! I'm guessing they didn't do the T4 test due to the TSH being in range despite my last test showing my T4 low out of range. *sigh* So yet again I have to have a needle stuck in me.

Don't really know what to make of all this, although it's good to know the doc is doing all he can.

I'm glad they're doing a T4 test. Hopefully they will consider treatment if it is low again.

I don't know if you realise, but the range for TSH isn't a straight line. It is a curve that means that the middle of the range isn't actually the middle but towards the top! The difference between 2.5 and 5 is the same as the difference between 1.25 and 2.5 and between 0.5 and 1 and between 0.25 and 0.5. So you see there are a lot more 'jumps' before 2.5 than there are after 2.5 (basically you are doubling each time).

I have no idea if that made any sense to anyone other than me and my crazy brain, but basically I am saying that 2.5 isn't the middle of the range, it's actually near the top of the range. It would take a far bigger change in T4 to get you to the bottom of the range than to the top of the range. Basically you are pretty much bordering on hypothyroid.

I hope you get some treatment soon. Your fibromyalgia may not be caused by low T4 but I bet it is at least contributing to it. Hopefully you get treatment and find it isn't fibromyalgia after all :)

Good luck. Let us know how you get on.

Thanks Carolyn, I will. Appointment for next Monday so won't get a result until later next week. I will ring up for it before making any more appointments so I know where the conversation will head. :)

So now it is thought you have fibromyalgia? You might like to read the top article, for starters, by this wonderful doctor Robert D Gerwin on this link:

Nope. Sorry.

There is a problem with the return character and hyperlinks. You must leave a space before and after your hyperlink for it to work. It's the same with smilies :)

painpoints.com/patients/res...

This has been reported in great detail, by me :D

Hopefully it will be fixed eventually. I think they're trying to sort out the bigger problems first.

Weird characters also cause a problem, as do spaces in a URL. They also know about this. I was very thorough in my explanation to them ;)

If you get "page won't load" click refresh and it should be fine :)

Although our GPs/Endos name 'fibromyalgia' this is a link which I think will be helpful too.
