I started on medication in September last year for copd and since November I have put on nearly three stone. I am very tired and had blood tests two weeks ago which came back as low calcium. I have now had further blood tests and should get results this week. could this be thyroid problems and could it account for my weight gain. I feel at the end of my tether.. would appreciate any comments please.xx
i am sorry to bother you all as I don't even kn... - Thyroid UK
i am sorry to bother you all as I don't even know if I have thyroid problems but I need help.
Depends.... I was on a combined spray or asthma and whacked a stone on in a month.... I looked up the med effects and found lots of people with weight gain, one poor soul had gained 6 stones. Cant remember the name o the spray but it was in a light purple container. I changed to a different combined med (Symbicort). And no weight gain at all..... Which med are you on?
...I have seen COPD listed as a symptom of Under Active Thyroid - think it was the Wellsphere website - not sure ! Without proper testing we are not able to guide you - so possibly that is your next move. Please look at the main Thyroid UK website and check out the other signs and symptoms of UAT - in case you haven't already. Lots of helpful advice there. Also check out the Vitamins and Minerals needed for healthy functioning. VitD B12 Iron Folates etc.
Hope you feel better soon....
When you get your results ask for a printout of them with ranges and post as a new question and someone will advise.
You need to ask your doctor to test your TSH, T4 and (if your lab will do it) T3 levels. Make sure to ask your doctor for a printout as most aren't good at interpreting the results and will often tell you there is nothing wrong when there is. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt as they say. The results will have ranges by them - post those too and then someone can help you. Also ask for these to be tested - Vit D, Vit B12, iron, ferritin and folate.
