If your calcium level is normal then does this mean you do not have a thyroid problem?

No.

Simply, it means that you do not have a parathryoid problem. Parathyroids are very small glands that can be almost surrounded by thyroid but are separate glands.

No, it means nothing on its own. it might mean that your vit D ( hormonal) is Ok, or if you need treatment with vit D it is safe to have it. That is all.Thyroid you need TSH, T4 and Free T3, tested.

Best wishes,

Jackie

Do you have any reason to believe that you have a problem?

If you do, then you need to have a thyroid function test. If you go to your GP he will only test your TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) and unless you ask for the actual result and range he will most like tell you it is 'normal'. It is best to ask for a printout or ask him to give you the actual figures.

It can give some clue as to whether you need to look further. If he is prepared to do the ones Jackie mentions, that is great, then ask for the results and ranges to be printed out and put them on here.

My wife may have the problem as 'part' of her 22q11.2 deletion syndrome diagnosis, and it was her female doctor who confused us enough for me to ask the question. It is now obvious that not only us but maybe the GP has got her thyroids and parathyroids mixed up! I may return to this post once we have had the next GP appointment.
