dental crowns might be making you ill

I recently heard a programme on Radio 4 about dentists placing crowns containing high quantities of nickel, aluminium and copper when patients ask for gold.

Nickel is highly carcinogenic and allergenic (the most common allergy in humans) and aluminium is implicated as a major cause of Alzheimer's. Heavy metals also supress thyroid function and poison the body.

Barry Cockcroft, Chief Dental Officer and advisor to the goverment can be heard on the programme saying that it is OK to place these crowns instead of the real gold ones, even though the patient doesn't know.

It is very frightening as people will be getting ill and wont suspect their lovely 'gold' crown as the cause as they asked for and paid for gold.

My dentists says there is no way of knowing if you have a real gold crown just by looking. They look just like the real thing. The only way you can be sure is to have a sample of it melted down and analysed at an Assay Office, there is one in Birmingham.

If a dentist has done this to you they are unlikely to own up as you will sue them for tresspass on your body, fraud and deception.

I forgot to mention the material for these fake crowns (they are known as aluminium bronzes) costs 26p per gram real gold costs about £16 per gram at the moment. So you can see what is going on. It's all about money as usual, never mind if you make people sick.

Hi Katy

We are working our way through the unanswered Questions.

For future reference, I suspect that this may have got a better response as a blog. :-)

We are hoping to have 'like' and perhaps even 'viewed' capabilities soon which will give us a much better idea of when people are looking at things even when they don't comment.
