Hi , you can have swelling, difficulty swollowing, voice problems etc if thyroid swollen or/ nodules , common. To show this if these problems exist then you need an ultra sound, if nodules, always biopsied under an ultra sound by a specialist radiologist., then usually just have to live with it but make sure first.

Best wishes,

Jackie

Hello Akhish

You may not have a visible goitre at present, but you have an inflamed thyroid, if it is sore it does mean that your thyroid is being attacked by antibodies in your system. Hashimoto's can vary, sometimes flaring up and sometimes calming down. This link can help you to understand your condition:

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_...

You did not say if you have had any medication given to you, or what your blood test shows. Is it possible for you get your results and put them on here? Did your doctor test you for antibodies, and if so can you include that in the results?

Please include the ranges (the figures in brackets after your results) because labs vary in their ranges.

Where do you live? It could be useful to know because there may be an endo on the TUK list who is near you.

U won't believe this but because my tsh levels where fine, my doc thought i was just feeling sorry for myself. So i did my own research and came across anti bodies. Got tested positive for thyroid peroxidase sitting at 243( range <30). At what range should i worry? My left side of my throat hurts and also my left ear.

Hi Akhish,

Your level of antibodies is not huge - I've seen them in the thousands before. Having said that, I think different people's bodies react at different levels.

I think it's a good idea that you are going for a scan - this will show up exactly what the problem is.

I had a thyroidectomy due to a lump. It's a safe operation as long as you have a good surgeon. You need to ensure that you choose a surgeon who has experience of thyroidectomies so ask how many he has done.
