Hi, I bought the book "coping with Thyroid problems " by Joan Gomez and the advice in this book is - don't miss any meals - just change them.Cut out as far as possible the fats, don't increase the protein (i.e meat) and especially don't ditch the bread, potatoes, pasta and rice - it's carbohydrate that your thyroid runs on, and that keeps your metalic rate up

After reading the book I started slimming world which follows the above (healthy eating really). The weight is starting to come off slowly i've lost 11 pounds in 9 weeks

Hope this helps

Lol, I love that you wrote that. My doctor told me to try the carb free diet. Naturally I said no chance, but it's good to know I was right. Just wondering what a carb free diet would have done to my next readings!

There's nothing healthy about cutting out fats! The body needs fat, needs cholesterol. Cholesterol is necessary for making certain hormones, and as we are already hormonally challanged we really can't afford to further upset our delicate hormonal balance.

Hugs, Grey

Advice I was given that seems to be good was to only take your tablet with water and have nothing to eat or drink 2 hours either side of taking it. I therefore take mine in the night which has alleviated waking up with lots of pains in my joints and in particular my arms. I also only have a limited amount of wine or fruit juice diluted with mineral water, about a glass a week and no more than 2 cups of coffee in any day. It might take a while before you notice a difference but it works for me as I'm also sleeping more and only getting up twice in the night. (Compared to 5 or 7 times.) I hope this might help,. Good Luck and best wishes.

OK - I have Graves and am on 40mcg Carbimazole for overactive (TSH was 0.03 in March)

then June's results show TSH of 74 (severely underactive) and have been put on Levo 100mcg as well as my 40mcg Carbimazole. So, my question is, am I to eat a diet for overactive or a diet for underactive or do I just eat what I like and see how it goes?
