do any of you have pink pee after eating beetroot?

Apparently it is related to iron deficiency and low stomach acid. Around 10% of people get it. Wondering if it might be a higher proportion here.

lol...i get it when I eat beetroot and I eat a lot of it because it cleanses the liver and I also have AIH/PBC overlap (autoimmune liver disease)

Interesting you say about the autoimmune liver disease. I just had a blood test that showed I had slightly positive smooth muscle antibodies.

I frightened the life out of myself one year with this - someone gave me fresh beetroot that they had grown in their garden and I pigged out on it and ended up with bright red pee - thought I had something nasty for a minute.lol.

Same happened to me Moggie. I had some beetroot crisps and was very confused when I went to the loo. I've had beetroot since and it hasn't happened again, so maybe my iron was just a bit low.

Interesting! Wondering if it makes a difference whether the beetroot is pickled in vinegar or not.

I have this when I eat beetroot, which I love. I'm interested in the liver connection as I have fatty liver and had my gallbladder removed last year.

I ate some beetroot crisps yesterday and had pink wee and poo. I have low stomach acid due to cimetidine and i've been bleeding for months. I was thinking i'm probably anaemic, thanks to this info i'll request some tests. Thanks for your post. X

Yes. Always, even wnen taking Hcl and digestive enzymes. Only eat raw or boiled, not vinegared. Goes on for more than a day, too.

We use to find this really amusing as children. Dad had a very large vegetable garden on the farm and we would have loads of beetroot, which I love. It was funny to have pink pee. I've never thought much about it and certainly didn't link it to anything.

Yes you will when eating beetroot, rhubarb and anything that has a strong colour. Nothing to worry about, just the natural juices from highly coloured foods. EG fried seaweed you can get with Chinese food, turns your pee green as does curly kale cabbage. Anything highly coloured will do this. If you drink a lot of blackcurrent drinks this will happen too!
