Your GP should run a full blood count (FBC) and conduct a proper thyroid test, at the very least adding FT4 test to the TSH test. He should also test B12, folate, ferritin, iron, and Vitamin D.

You are entitled to have a copy of these tests and this will enable you to post all results on here, with ranges please as labs ranges differ, and you will get advice.

Meantime learn as much as you can on the main site:

I have had all these blood tests in the last month except FT4 my doctors don't do these..My vitiamin D has been really low for the last two years have to take 4 tablets a day and have top ups every so often. My thyroid reading this time is 1.4

Hi This is typical cost saving! I agree with above. Also you need a diabetes test ( autoimmune and hormonal) often similar symptoms to thyroid to start with. Also make sure you have a test for TSH, T4 and Free T3 for thyroid. This used to be standard. If your nHS Lab will not do it. It is worth paying on line, it may make a huge difference to having

treatment.

Best wishes,

Jackie

Hi Jenny, this happens all the time, A lot of psychiatrists have known for many years that depression can be thyroid. If you can pay, use Blue Horizon, main site, have the 3 in one thyroid test, TSH, T4 and Free T3, If you quote TUK 10 , £10 discount, then venous blood is about £60, finger prick ( easier) about £70. Do not post at the end of week, takes too long. Results to you with ranges, e mail, very simple When I started treatment ,years ago, FT3 always done and that was the only blood tests that showed I was severely Hypo. They are really a well know Lab which is important for showing a doc for treatment. Also make sure GP has tested for , B12 + Folic acid, vit D, iron/Ferritin and Diabetes, al related and effect thyroid, autoimmune and hormonal. Ant doc who does bloods always get the results with ranges, receptionist, etc. This is routine, your blood!

Do not let them label you to be mentally ill, unless you are sure it is not the thyroid etc.

Best wishes,

Jackie
