Hot Flushes during menopause

I took HRT for a long while at GP's suggestion but have now weaned myself of this. However night sweats have now returned and I have disturbed sleep every night. What can I take to help this problem as the lack of sleep is doing me no good at all. I have Hypothyroidism.

gardenerSue57,Like you I tried HRT and then oestrogen only after hysterectomy. Many herbs natural products (list of natural products printed off by an exasperated GP).

Twenty years on I still get them however they are lessened by avoiding alcohol (wine) at night coffee chocolate and sugary things). I do sometimes eat way to many sweets and or have wine in evening severe sweating always follows at night. Can only presume these mess with blood sugar.

Dr Durrant Peatfield author of 'The Great Thyroid Scandal' & 'Your Thyroid and How To Keep It Healthy' I believe he once said he wished he knew the answer to sweats.

You might like to look at progesterone.co.uk/ (Wellsprings bioidentical products).

I have limited the affects with silk nightwear and a cool bedroom and avoiding the alcohol and sugar late in day and evening Also improved when T3 & T4 levels at the high end as did my sleep.Sometimes sleeping naked helps cause you cool down quickly before it wakes you up fully. Weather still too cold for me to sleep in buff!

Hwynope something helps you soon.

Thanks I have to get the results of my latest bloods from the GP so will be interested to see if the T3 is down again as I function at a high level. Had hoped that weaning off the HRT slowly would be helpful but it hasn't been. I'm told by various people that I shouldn't take various natural remedies with Levothyroxine but quite frankly I was prescribed HRT with it when I shouldn't have been and there must be something out there to help.

Did they mean not to take at the same time ie., levo on empty stomach and wait half to one hour before food or other drinks. To take iron etc., well away from taking levo.

The more I learn the more contra indications I find.

Of course if you are a little over medicated that could exacerbate night sweats.

Until you get results r & r...only do the things you like??!!

No idea the nutritionist I see for other issues advised that I shouldn't take any phytooestrogens as would interact with other medication, unhelpfully she didn't say which I assume levothyroxine but as the GP has had me taking HRT for years can't imagine it would do any more harm than that.
