Any body had high calcium

Had a TT 2006 and have had high calcium levels that last a few months then come right ,anybody got any info on this , as to why it is happening.

Why did you have your thyroid removed and did they remove your parathyroids as well as high calcium can be linked with parathyroid troubles.

Hi had graves , no did not remove parathyroids , i know you can have low calcium due to damage to parathyroids during op ,But last year they told me i had high calcium ,took blood every 3 months for about 9 mths ,then said it had righted its self .they gave no explaination as to why this happened just that its ok now,which i thought was odd ,also did bloods for bones,Any ideas,

Have you not asked the GP or endo to explain WHAT happened. If I don't understand anything I always ask WHY.

Maybe a lady called Jackie will catch this question as she is very good on calcium issues and I'm afraid I am about to leave work for the day (only have access to this site at work).

I hope someone else will step in but if they don't then I would either google "TT + high calcium" and see what you get or ask your endo.

Hi, my mother had high calcium, and waiting on results of the scan she had, the endo have said it can be the parathyroid tumour, and been she over 70 that a operation would be a good idea, he said if she had a fall a broke a bone etc, could be much worse

Hi Several reasons. If corrected calcium is above range and taking vit D, what ever the status of D you have to stop it. Takes about 3 months for levels to improve ( Endo?) If calcium is high then you need 3 bloods done together ,,must be Am, for PTH, Corrected calcium and vit D. ( Most Gp`s do not seem to understand that it must include vit D). If all above range, high or the 2 and D high for you. Next test is PTH ( parathyroid), CT and nuclear scan, large teaching hospital. Also an ultra sound of thyroid. If PTH is the problem, it does normally mean surgery, very successful but important

Hi thanks ,I do not take vit D ,But did get a vit D test ,was ok (have had a TT in 2006)They give no explaination for why my calcium was high ,than just said it had righted its self.I know you can get low calcium after a TT,Do you know if to high a dose of levo would course high calcium as they lowered my dose of levo.

Hi No I have never heard of calcium in relation to thyroid. However, sometimes it blips which is why 2 tests consecutively are desirable. I would ask for another one in 3 months, if high then , have the 3 bloods done. Sometimes it is low fluid level.It is sometime ago, perfectly possible for PTH to suddenly be a problem but if Calcium not above range, no need to worry. It would stay up, nothing will bring mine down.

Sorry for the short reply net playing up ,Can i ask is your calcium high because of your PTH .As you said that your levels wont come down ,have you got high calcium because you got Hypocalciuric, I did not ask why mine was high but noticed this on the monitor at the hospital ,I googled it and it said its due to a mutant gene ,did you find out because you had symtoms ,or from blood results. Hi Well my body is such a wreck, not an easy question to answer. My calcium ( corrected ) was always in range, in spite of renal and liver disease, which means I have lots of cysts and stones ( calcium) ,

I was on a lot of bit D, under a good endo, but we kept a close eye on my corrected calcium, monthly tests. Then suddenly last year it went sky high. I had to reduce and then stop the D, although I have Osteomalacia, and take a drug which side effects do actually lower calcium. At that stage I had The, Calcium and vit D, done together Am as Endo requested, although the GP`s did not understand the test! Then all very high,except D just high for me, I think just below range . if I remember correctly the PTH about 20. I had the nuclear scan and CT for PTH sand a thyroid scan. Thyroid, I have had Hashimotos for a long time. I have nodules and very enlarged gland. PTH was OK. I cannot have any biopsies ,surgery or treatment as too ill. The normal course is to biopsy the nodules under a radiologist. Often fine. Otherwise surgery. I have lots, well 4 "lumps" altogether in my body, so may be significant, who knows!? My PTH and calcium still very high, D lowish, it was on the floor originally, never improved over years on scripts, then went high for me but under range , at test time. Still is high for me but below range. I still have it tested and calcium every other week. Calcium very important for me and the other electrical minerals, Potassium,sodium and magnesium, tested every week, but for anyone must be in range.That is especially important for me as heart only working at 1%. total wreck , end stage heart failure with the only thing that is I have no one elses opinion , is I have a terribly bad gall bladder and because so bad a serious permanent condition called cholocystitis, Gall bladder always removed before this happens. it includes big stones, common any way with autoimmune thyroid disease. Of course, most stones are calcium. Have you had an abdomen scan, livr. kidney and gall bladder, not much use for pancreas, other tests for that.

You should be seeing an Endo, really important, of course, if serious further docs but a good endo first.

Liz that is fine, if my problems can help some one avoid them, I am all fro it. be sure to see a specialised gall bladder surgeon, not general at a large teaching hospital
