Does anybody take Levo and Armour?

Have had to reduce my Armour as resting heart rate too high and Dr S has suggested adding in some Levo as thinks I may be ok with it now even though had bad side effects before. Is it ok to take them at the same time ie first thing in morning?

I have taken both together (first thing in the morning) for a long time.I am also Dr Skinner's patient and he advised me to use both.Too much armour speeds up my heart too much as well-I used to be on 2 1/2 grains. I have ended up on 75 mcg thyroxine and 1 1/2 grains armour. I have tried so many different combinations and this seems the best for me. The thyroxine must be working for me because I feel unwell if i reduce it.I hope this works for you.x

I am really interested in this idea too. What does Dr S consider to be too high a resting heart rate? I am not 100% sure that 3 grains of Armour is 100% right for me and keep wondering about adding in some T4... but don't want a repeat of the problems I had on T4 only and high rT3... Thanks, xx

Hi, my resting pulse is consistently 80-84 and sometimes slows down then speeds up but not atrial fibrillation as regular. Dr S listened to my heart and said Armour was making the. muscle irritable. I had already reduced from 3&1/2 grains to 3 on advice from an endo and my T4 has now dropped from 26 to 15 (9-22) in 6 weeks with a return of headache muscle cramps and a multitude of other symptoms.

Dr S suggested I reduce to 2&1/2 grains and replace it with 50mcg of Levo for 1 month then add another 50 if ok, wait another month then another 50 if necessary. Have spoken to my GP who is very supportive and she suggested I reduce by 1/4 grain and add 25mcg for 2 weeks then repeat and wait a month then do same again. I am happier with his as I have had so much trouble increasing Armour though still apprehensive.

I had terrible problems on Levo but Dr S thinks this could be because my calcium, vit D and B12 were very low and are now corrected but said stop if I get a repeat of the problems and contact him. He said I might still not convert properly but the only way was to try and see.

The other option was to continue to increase my Armour dose again and take beta-blockers to slow my heart rate but I also had problems with those and am less keen on that option.

Hi Well I have to have Armour and t3, for very low FT3,( Endo) so I cannot see any reason why, if you have low T4, it would not be just as useful. I would say ,depends on your results but better than being on a huge dose of Armour, just for low T4, and cheaper!I would also take them at different times.

Best wishes,

Jackie
