I have just recently been diagnosed with a hyperactive thyroid and will be seeing an edno early next month. My doctor has kindly provided my blood test result for T3 and T4. I am on 10mg a day of carbimazole but still feel like I have been hit by a bus. My levels are :

Serum free T3 level 9.08 pmo/L 2.63-5.70pmol/L

Serum free T4 level 22.08 pmoi/ 9.01 - 19.05mlU/L

Serum urea level 9.6 mmo/L 2.50-6.70mmo/L

have you got any advice for me? I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP.

Hi

You need to contact your GP and ask for your TSH (Thyroid stimulating hormone) result. Then let us know with ranges.

Secondly keep a diary of how you feel and what health issues you come up against. Get a print out of all blood tests and keep them to hand. Take them with you to your endo appointment and go with a friend or partner. When you speak to the endo insist on a physical exam and take a list of questions for the endo. Make notes on the endo's replies and don't expect too much. They will most likely see you for 5 mins and then fob you off.

Do ask what they think is the problem i.e short term thyroiditis, Graves of Hashimotos. If it is one of the latter then ask for an antibodies test and if they think it is a multinodular goitre then ask for a scan.

Do get a new blood test a few days before each of your endo appointments and insist on an appointment every 3 months. In between times get your GP to do your bloods every 6 - 8 weeks.

For your info your T3 is quite high but I am no expert on T3.

If you find you are having palpitations or panic attacks ask for meds to help.

I hope this helps and I am sure others on here will help more.
