I'm not sure that it's safe for an adult. That radioactive iodine has to pass through the digestive system, and generally damages stuff on its way to the thyroid. The second highest concentration of iodine in the body is found in the ovaries.

I don't have Graves, so I've not had to make this terribly difficult decision (and so I probably can't completely understand), but think I would opt for drugs or surgery over RAI if I had to make a choice.

Have you got some blood tests results? - although not perfect they're at least something to go by, or scans maybe? perhaps folks can help you with a bit more info like symptoms, tests, medication, family history, even diet? - I know it's hard to get a 3 year old to take medicine or even eat!

So all I can do is try to reply although I really don't have any real knowledge of Graves to help. (just had a nodule which caused hyper symptoms, but better since surgery - just my story 'tho & may not apply to your situation) ((hugs)) Jane xx

I have Graves and even i wouldnt opt for RAI,They do say when you have RAI to keep away from pregnant women and children.Cant understand why they would say a 3 year old has to have this.I would speak to the GP about your concerns to put your mind at ease. What a horrible situation youve been put in.I hope they can find another option.Hope you can get it all sorted.Love Kashka.
