Colonoscopy

Hi , to all those kind folk who responded to my post regarding a positive fit test

I had my colonoscopy yesterday which was a very simple and painless procedure which identified nothing more than a 2mm polyp just above the sigmoid colon .A massive relief obviously after 2 weeks of anxious waiting .There was no evidence of any bleeding in the colon so no answer as to why blood showed up in my sample and no answer as to the change in bowel habit that prompted my GP to refer me.

I'm very grateful to you all for your kind responses , thank you 😊

Really glad all went ok. Must be a huge relief for you! I have my colonoscopy a week today. Can’t wait to get it done now.

I have to say it was a very easy procedure and the staff were brilliant. I was sedated but I'm pretty sure I could have endured it without. If anything the prep. was the worst thing, the strict diet for 5 days before, the 2 litres of lemon flavoured laxative and being married to the loo for 12 hours lol but it was all worth it to have a clean bill of health.

Let us know how yours goes but try to relax and as the consultant said to me as she started ' don't worry , the majority of these examinations prove negative'

Hi ,yes all went well My colonoscopy showed up nothing serious so nothing to worry about . .Unfortunately the symptoms I went to the GP for originally are still there. I still have mild nausea and light headedness after a bowel movement and often feel mildly bloated after eating even small meals .I have the sensation of my stomach pushing up in my throat but without physical regurgutation and more recently stabbing pains in the centre of my chest and throat .My personal take on it is that I have inflammation of the stomach and oesophagus lining but I'm still waiting for a GP appointment to discuss it .I currently take 30mg of Lanzoprazol which I've been taking for nearly 20 years

Hi , yes I had a fit test which was supposedly a condition of seeing the consultant for a change of bowel habit and mild nausea. The result was given to my GP in 24 hours who immediately referred me for an urgent 2 week colonoscopy screening which I'm told is standard practice for a positive result.

I had my procedure within 10 days which showed nothing serious.

Interestingly I looked up my actual reading on my notes which was 30mg of blood per 1000mg of faeces sample .

This was enough to trigger the 2 week referral .

I understand that's quite a low score but coupled with symptoms its above the threshold for a screening .

I would say ,based on my experience and what I was told by the hospital there is only a very small chance a positive test means cancer in the bowel .

It's very easy to say don't worry as I was definitely not myself whilst waiting to have the procedure but it was over quite quickly and not at all uncomfortable.

I was given the result as soon as it was finished and everything explained perfectly .

I hope that helps a bit 🙂

Please can you explain what a FIT test is? I have IBS C but have never had any tests. I just can't even get to see my GP.

Hi Hammerboy , glad to see nothing came of concern from this test , my symptoms are exactly the same as yours and I'm currently waiting for my colonoscopy and I had nearly the same results as you for fit test mine was 24 , I realise this post was 3 months ago and was just wondering if you have had any resolve yet. Thanks in advance

I guess it could be worse and I know from last time this happened to me it went away on it's own but they never got to the bottom of it . Very strange

I agree , my symptoms are lessening so my fingers are crossed it just goes away but without an exact diagnosis you are left feeling frustrated it could come back

Yeah same thing it is annoying but nice when it goes I had this two years ago and was a lot worse so I'm glad as I know how much worse it could get that it hasn't got to that stage yet, as you say it's frustrating as I don't want this back every two years obviously.
