I've had really bad tummy pains and diarrhea for 4 days. I slipped up and ate something that sets my IBS off but it will not stop. Any one with any ideas of how to stop or help this .
Thanks

Do you think it could be a stomach virus? If not, the only thing that is helping me is a very strict FODMAP diet.
No not a tummy bug. I've been barely eating anything the last 4 days. Plain food and all my meds. I was like this when I first got it but worked really hard at avoiding things that made it worse. I'm a wee bit stressed but nothing too bad.
You should consult your GP urgently, 4 days is too long. Stress certainly doesn't help. It could be one of many things causing the problem. You should be concerned about kidney function being impaired with dehydration, drink plenty of water regardless until you can see your GP. I went down this track and ended up with kidney failure from the dehydration with diarrhea. I waited far too long before checking into A&E and was given just hours to live when I arrived. Not a lot of fun in IC being isolated from everyone and doped to the eyes trying to keep me alive.
Take action sooner than later.
Thanks. Hopefully I feel better today. Thanks for your replies .
It's possible something else is going on, have you tried taking loperamide?
I was under a huge amount of stress last month and I had the same, but it lasted over a week. My body rejected everything I ate, even things I am normally good with. Each time I thought I had turned a corner it would come back. This went on for a good month on and off until I got back into a fairly reasonable (for me) rhythm.
I hounded the GP and they did do their best but told me to eat little both often, drink plenty and wait for it to pass. I did take buscopan to try and kick it. It kind of helped to a point but certainly did not cure it.
I think when the imbalance in your gut gets to a point of no simple return, it takes some time to right itself. According to my GP I have had a number of episodes like this in my life.
Thankfully I am pretty much passed it now, but I do get flare ups which frighten me a little bit by thinking I am going backwards again. Fingers crossed!
Hope you're feeling much better today though, and if you can jot it down the journey you have taken over the past few weeks. It might help in dealing with future bad flare ups and give you peace of mind that it will pass.
I take 6 buscopan every day two each time and it really helps keep the stomach muscles from cramping, I find it’s the only way .. doctor told me it’s no good just taking them when you are having an attack ...
If it's not a tummy bug then don't drink or eat anything with dairy in it and stay away from fruit or squash drinks and porridge. Eggs can bind and settle things if you can eat them. With IBS flare ups due to eating an intolerance food, there's not much you can do other than ride it out. The unfortunate thing is that it can take time to settle. I have multiple intolerance and have to be really careful. You have my sympathy. It's an awful thing to go through. I hope you feel better soon.
You can stop diarrhea by only consuming white jasmine rice at each meal to give you energy. This gets digested in the small intestine with no residue going to the large intestine. It also gives your colon a rest and helps it to recover. This should only be needed for 1 or 2 days to make it stop.
