Hello, I joined this community a while back and have been lurking for a while now, but this is my first post. I've been living with IBS (mainly D) now for 8 years. I’ve had to get colonoscopies about every 2 years and each time was just a nightmare. Due to my sensitive gut, I’ve tried eating a low FODMAP diet, cut out dried fruit, some vegetables (nuts, lentils,...), etc. and it seems like I can only eat carrots and spinach (you guys know the feeling :(.) Not entirely determined to stay away from meds, but I was hoping I could find a positive solution aside from them since I’ve had a bit of trouble with them. I took Alflorex probiotics for IBS but it hasn’t seemed to help with my loose stools very well. I'm considering trying Spogest-ib, Symprove, or Phillip's Colon Health. Can anyone here give me any feedback on those?

Same situation here. My doctor gave me mebeverine but it stopped working after 2 weeks on it and gave me even more heartburn. The FODMAP diet made me pretty bad feeling for a while with my health issues. I'm don’t have any recommendations out of the ones you listed, but I’ll just tell you what has worked for me. I tried both spogest ib and symprove and they both worked (a little bit different). Symprove is cheaper and calmed my frequent BMs down (from 5-6 times to about 3 times per day). However, I quit using it after 1 month because my symptoms were coming back. Spogest ib is better but more expensive ($60) for a month with the dose of 2 vials per day. I took it for 2 weeks and started to eat normally (like bananas and beans) without noticing effects. 3 months on SpoGest let me change some of my habits, and I still follow FODMAP a bit but can now enjoy chocolate when I want and go out with less fear of urgency. The small vials are quite convenient too compared to the big bottle of symprove. 2 vials before going out is enough to last me for an entire day.
Hi jweber, thank you for your helpful advice. I wish I could enjoy some food but still not sure if those could trigger my issues. Did you purchase Spogest directly on their website? And did you notice any die-off symptoms at the beginning? How long it took you to start normal movements? I'd appreciate if you can tell me more about your situation. Thank you in advance
Please check with your health care provider first before trying any new products as they may worsen your symptoms.
Hi John, I am in a similar situation to you but haven't tried probiotics before the last week. I am taking a Hey Nutrition complex which was recommended on the Internet but it's too early to say if it will help. The only med that has really helped me is loperamide (Imodium). I haven't taken it for many years and I have started it again the last few weeks. Ten years ago when the GP first suggested it I found that the capsules were too strong and caused C so the doc prescribed Imodium syrup which is a lower, more manageable dose, and that really made a difference.
Hi Jackie, thank you so much for your advice. Do you find any relief with Hey Nutrition? And how long did your dr. advise you to take Imodium? Did you have to take it for months? I'm so confused now and hope something can work for my situation. Thank you in advance!
Yep me too. I'm considering Spogest and Symprove but maybe I'd go with spogest first then see if it works for my diarrhoea.
2 of those 3 come in liquid form, but I prefer SpoGest-IB probiotics b/c they're way more convenient. Both me and my 60-year-old mom have IBS and we’ve tried so many probiotics. My mom has trouble swallowing pills though and we have to find something thats easy to take, so liquids are our go-to most of the time. Plus I read some articles saying that when supplements and vitamins are taken in liquid form, they're a lot more easily broken down and absorbed by the body, so it’s more effective than pills. That's why tried out SpoGest and have still stayed on it since. My mom loves the taste compared to some of the others and she also noticed improvement with her bloating and abdominal pain. She’s now lowered her daily dose from 2 vials per day to just 1 and is still seeing progress.
I saw some advertisements from spogest ib and they’re apparently a new brand, but the texture and ingredients are pretty similar to enterogemina. I dunno if they work well, but it's not that cheap for a month supply and all those plastic vials aren’t exactly environment friendly.
spogest ib for sure! but I don't like the hard-to-open vials. Don't know how you guys open them but I always need scissors (they're not easy twist like what they claim). Packing aside, the probiotics work well for my diarrhea and bloating. I just took spogest for 2 weeks and most of my symptoms have been reduced. Before trying it, my stool was watery and sometimes bloody, but now it's like back to normal, the abdominal pain is less severe and i’m not experiencing flatulance very often. I'm happy with the result but not confident enough to stop using it yet. I move down to a lower dose thogh.
