DULOXETINE for constipation

My Gastro wants me to try this for my awful awful constipation caused by 30+ years of diabetes and kidney problems.

Will you please tell me your experiences with it? It says nothing about it being used for Gastro when I looked it up. Just that it’s an antidepressant. Thank you all

Duloxetine is sometimes used as analgesia, dependant on the dose. I am rather surprised it is being issued as a laxative. Are you sure you don't mean Docusate or Sodium Docusate?

Hi yes I’m absolutely sure she sent me a letter. That’s why I asked on here. I don’t know what to make of it and Gastro won’t speak to me

Ask your pharmacist, as they know, more than anyone about the drugs (uses and side effects).

Zofran has a medication that dissolves under your tongue. The taste disappears quickly and it goes to work fast

Sorry. I have never taken Duloxetine. Someone else had mentioned Zofran for nausea.

I am in the US and can go on a chart and ask the doctor questions. I guess not in the UK.All I can say is try it and maybe start even less than what the doctor prescribed and see how you handle it

Oh no. You are so lucky over there. Over here we barely get any help at all since covid started. I can’t even get seen at all by Gastro and this is affecting my kidney transplant just to give you an idea of how bad things are here. She won’t explain why she wants me to take it for constipation when it says it’s an anti depressant that causes constipation. Anyway thanks for replying to me 😊

So sorry for you. I would think that with a kidney transplant you are high risk. How about you show up at the ER( emergency room) and let them know you are very concerned with your medication and with your transplant you need to be extra cautious.

😄

ER works differently here too. It’s only junior doctors here and no doctor suggests going there with Dom working complicated because you won’t get any help if it’s not life threatening. Things are really bad here now. And it’s different from hospital to hospital. And because it’s a state health system there is nobody to complain to like you can at your end. But thanks again

Ssri's in small doses are becoming more frequently used for ibs constipation and tricyclic's are used for ibs diarrhoea because of the brain gut connection. Hope this helps
