Have you tried a hot water bottle, that's what I use and find very helpful. Buscupan do absolutely nothing for me.

Hope you feel better soon.

Hi hun yes heat does really help me but since Friday I not had very good days at all the pains and cramps are really just like labour pain I’m really struggling as I was up a lot last night then had to get up and go too work x

I'm so so sorry Bruce, I totally understand. If a hot water bottle isn't enough for me I also take paracetamols, that was my hubby's idea and it works for me. x

Dunno if this sounds like a daft question but when I have a bad flare up to go from been constipated too then having diahorrea within a hour or so will this upset be what I have just eaten or will it be what I have possibly eating 24 hours before hand xx

in reply to Bruce33

It's not a daft question at all. It can sometimes take a couple of days. I keep a diary every day and it helps so much. I'm not sure if we've talked about low fodmap before but that's what's worked wonders for me, I'm so much better.

Have you tried low fodmap? x

I keeping a diary every day of what I’m eaten but I’m not sure when I’m having the flare up to when or what foods might be causing it I’m not sure what I’m doing tbh I tried cutting things out that I know make me worse but I’m struggling right now it never been this bad seem like over the last few months it just gone really bad xx I may have to ring my doctor back xxx

I'm so sorry Bruce, I really feel for you as I know what it's like. I've had IBS since 1996 but I could control it until I had food poisoning in November 2018, it completely changed to IBS with diarrhoea and acute nausea. By November 2019 I was begging my doctor to refer me to a Dietician. I started the low fodmap in January this year, best thing I ever did.

Please see your doctor about getting referred, it works for 75% of people.

I hope you see your doctor soon.

Take care

Alicia xx

Hi hun I got some pepper mint capsules to try today and also my doctor phone me back he referring me first to a gastrioest not sure how you spell it at the hospital to test me to see what kind of ibs I have then we take it from there I know I’ll be waiting a while for the referral but least it’s a start xx

in reply to Bruce33

I'm so glad you've been referred to a Gastroenterologist, at least that's the first step. In the meantime maybe see if there are some foods like make you worse.

I hope it doesn't take too long. xx

Good to hear well hoping I get some answers and it may help me also 🙏🏻 Xx

I hope you do Bruce. I cannot thank the Monash University enough for creating the diet, in fact I think I'll contact them and let them know. I also take Alflorex Probiotics, they are specific ones for IBS, they've also meant I can eat some high fodmap food I couldn't eat before.

Very best of luck to you.😊👍

Hi, sorry to jump on this older post. How did you get on? Have you had any success with treatment or diet adjustments? I ask because your symptoms sound like mine. I have been on amitriptyline for about 5 weeks for ibs, I thought it was working then I gad a colonoscopy which set me back I think. I can go from being slightly constipated (still passing stool but hard) to extreme bloating and pain which usually results in diarrhoea, which puts me off food, which probably then makes me constipated again!Have you tried the low fodmap diet? I've been thinking about it.
