Ibs and pregnancy

Hi everyone

I’m at the 28 week mark of my pregnancy. And for the past week or so my ibs-D has been completely horrid. From waking up in the middle of the night with the toilet pangs to thinking I was in early labour!!

I get it’s probably hormone related. But I was already exhausted. I have a three year old to look after and this is just not something I need right now.

I haven’t eaten anything different. Or taken anything new.

Unfortunately because of the lockdown I haven’t got much support around so have to deal.

I will call my GP in the morning but understandably they are very busy.

So in the meantime has anyone got any tips to help ease my ibs-D? Peppermint capsules do not help me at all.

Thanks!

Good morning I use entersol gel and it is a game changer. It is not a medicine, but is totally natural and it has helped me so much. I have taken it for over a year now and it has made such a big difference. I also take probiotics and mebeverine. I hope you feel better soon. Take care xx

How often do you take enterogel? I have bought some but didn't know how often to take it as it seems to be a lot if you follow the instructions. Also wasn't sure if it's ok to always take it.

Hi I take it twice a day and once if I'm ok. I only take it 3 times if I am having a flare up. I asked my GP and as it is not a drug, it's fine to take long term. I would ask your GP or Gastro for guidance. It really has helped me. Claire xx

Thank you, I shall start with once a day and go from there. I asked my GP but they hadn't even heard of it and didn't give advice...

Hi they have a website which you can post questions on, you could check on there if it's ok to use whilst pregnant. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon xx

Hi Claire. Thanks for all your advice. I will definitely look into entersol gel. Normally a flare up doesn’t last this long for me but it’s gone on and it’s taking a toll. Along with pregnancy sickness I’m just not eating that much food. Will try some salmon though. Thanks again 🙂 x

Also my Gastro told me to eat bananas, oats and plain white rice if I was having a flare up, along with salmon, as it has anti inflammatory properties. I find it works for me xx

Thank you, I will try that too. I find oats very settling too. I eat a banana every day and I think that's helped a lot too. X

I agree keep your diet simple like brat diet banana, rice, apple sauce and toast the thing is you don’t Want to take anything that would bother your condition

When better try

Try fruit with natural digestive enzymes ...I use pineapple but there is papaya, kiwi if you can tolerate it....

Stay hydrated

Look for alternative to calcium-milk while good can upset the stomach

Thank you Kim... all those tips are really useful :-)

I heard of enterogel too. What helped me was green black whalnut complex by 'now' 20 drops 30 min before meal twice a day and candida clear tablets. All ibs symptoms gone. But not sure if you can use it during pregnancy.... it worth to try it afterwards.

Tell me more about the candida clear tablet?

in reply to Kim456

They were prescribed to me along with green black walnut complex by 'now's and my bf after he got so sick he didn't wanted to live any more. Constant stomack pain after whatever he ate, dizziness, vomiting. We both did Vega test in Poland. You can also do it here in uk. Basically you hold metal sticks for half an hour and you have a results right away: my bf had human worm, I had Clonorchis sinensis, giardia lamblia ....those bacterias cause similar effect as ibs. I was never tested for IBS just been wrongly told by gp that this is it. So this test let you see any problems with your body. I WAS sceptical about it. But within a week of diet; no sugar, pasta, white bread, tea, dairy products ( I did drank latte once a day) and eat spelt bread....we both felt like new !!! All symptoms gone. I bought them on I herb website. It so worth to try it. Even if you don't want to take the test, which cost here about £200 ( we paid £40 in poland) just buy candida and green whalnut about £10 each. £20 to see if your life is going to turn around? I think it's worth it.

Xx

Hi - thanks I will definitely look into this for after I give birth. Doesn’t seem like there’s a lot that can help right now.

Hope you feel better. You can also try Mastica. I was pregnant 2 years ago and worried about my IBS but like I said every symptom is gone and this diagnosis was wrong. Xx

How is your diet?

Hi - Diet is reasonable. No fast foot, no junk food etc

I followed a low fodmap for a while and found no issues. But I tend to stick to the same meals I’ve had for years which helps but I’ve barely eaten this passed week. Just getting small bits here and there to keep nutrients going to baby.

Hi! I would try with Diosmectal (2-3 per day) and enterelle probiotics (2 per day after meal). It should decrease quickly. Good luck!
