Can not lose weight?

Hi All,

I hope everyone and their family is safe in these difficult times.

I was diagnosed with IBS two years ago. I have IBS C. I have started eating healthier. I still have the feeling of heaviness in my lower stomach, loss of appetite ( i eat for the sake of eating and without any real hunger) and constipation whereby i feel i am not fully empty. I have colonoscopy, endoscopy, transit test (i had to swallow a pill and then have an x ray) and another test where something was injected into my back passage and i was asked to push as hard i can.

In this pandemic i have started exercising every single day to a point where i am a sweaty mess. i have also reduced my calories intake but i have not dropped any weight at all. Not even a single pound. If anything i have gained weight. I know this is not muscle weight. I am very disheartened and have begun to feel depressed as my hard work is going to vain. Prior to IBS diagnosis i could exercise for a few weeks and the weight would literally drop off. I dont know what to do. I am a male and feeling really down with the situation. Thankfully i am not in pain but the feeling of fullness is not comfortable and constant bloating does not help either.

Can anyone help?

Thank you so much.

I am a slimming world member and had a very very slow weight loss. Only 1 pound per week.

Are you sure you are on a lower calorie intake/ Sometimes we actually do not realise what we are eating and think we are on a lower calorie in take but other food we have misjudged.

I have lost 4 stone in 16 months and it has been hard.

You need to sit down and write down every thing you eat/ drink .

I don't agree with a calorie controlled diet unless you know the calorie count of everything.

If you want to loose weight safely go onto the slimmingworld website and have a look.

I too cannot lose weight or it takes blooming ages! I have IBS D, so you would think that it would be easy but oh no. Last couple of weeks I have been at home, so have been eating pretty much what I like, and struggling because you have to eat what you have during lock down, or what you can get hold of. I have been the worst I have ever been, D every day. I am not taking my usual imodium, so this is a plus. But you would think I would lose weight. In fact I went up! This IBS is so confusing, I thought I struggled with stress when working, but it appears it is all food related. But can never figure out what it is. I have recently had a free course with my local council to help me to lose weight, but the lady is lovely but she keeps suggesting I eat all of the foods that trigger me (there seem to be a lot) I can almost hear her thoughts, saying that I am just making excuses. So sorry I am not much help, but same here! x

Idk about eating all of the things that give you the D, that is the result of inflammation in the gut..so eating those things can cause more distress and possible worse problems for your digestive system from constantly eating those things. I’m not a doctor lol just a thought..

That is exactly why I have been eating widely over the last few weeks, but it has made me sick daily over and over😕

I think I remember you from another post, have you tried any prescriptions for the ibs? I know you usually take Imodium if I’m remembering correctly, I’ve been on Viberzi for a year and it’s been the best!!! It’s the only medication actually made for ibsd to my knowledge! I’ve also tried Xifaxan, but no luck with that one. I’ve had friends and read that others have had as much as a year relief with just taking the Xifaxan for the two weeks!

Hi yes I think it’s something you can get over there but not here. I am at a loss really other than Imodium as always.

Hi

Yes you too! We have been in our house now for about 3 weeks, but all well, so we are grateful for that! Take care x

You might be losing to many calories per day, if so it results in your body going into starvation mode where it takes food and stores it in your body as fat. Look into it on the net.

Another thing, depending on the type of exercise, your muscles might be developing, muscle weighs heavier than fat, so it might not seem like your are losing weight. Try measuring your waist, thighs, butt, arms etc with a tape measure instead of using scales.

There is a weight loss forum and a healthy eating forum, if you haven't checked them out yet may I suggest that you do, they are very good.

Take care and stay safe 🌈
