Don’t ignore changes in your symptoms

I have recently been having a rough time with nausea and bloating ( see previous post) but then went on to develop diarrhoea about 10 bouts a day. I put it all down to a bad flare of ibs and ignored it.

I finally went to the doctors regarding my nausea and they sent some samples off.

A week later I get a phone all that I have campylobacter and need a weeks course if antibiotics. I am on immunosuppressants as I have Lupus and had had this infection for over a month without even realising.

I also got referred to a gastroenterologist who wants to do an endoscopy as he thinks I have a hiatus hernia. I had ignored those symptoms for over a year!!

Take heed, I know it is very difficult to get a doctors appointment these days but please do go if you notice any changes in your symptoms.

I can only reiterate what you have said, and normally, suggest that people do not amend their medicines, without consulting their GP or GI team, or at a minimum, their regular pharmacist. Good luck, an I hope you recover soon.

That's mums isn't it? So busy caring for everyone else, they tend to ignore their own issues. I do hope you get this sorted. Campy is not nice.

What terrible news, so sorry for you.

It depends on your doctors, they are not all helpful, I have been struggling for many years and they have never been any help to me

Hi there,

I suffer from reflux, bloating , nausea and pain. It lasts for about 24-48 hours then goes away for a couple of days because I only eat toast, crackers or currant buns then comes back. I can’t eat anything , fatty, spicy or fried, I can’t eat chocolate or dairy. I have been put on metaclopromide because I felt sick so much and it has really helped with my nausea and reflux. I still suffer from my symptoms but probably only once a week or 10 days now which is much better. I had to cancel my endoscopy as I was shielding so need to get re referred.

I hope that helps a bit.

Good luck.

Thank you very much for your reply. Where di you get the pain ? I know the feeling I'm sheilding as well. Just got a call from the hospital asking me a bunch of questions and if would be able to self isolate for 2 weeks prior so fingers crossed they start doing endoscopes again soon. Hope you manage to get an appointment soon once sheilding is over.

The pain is in the top part of my stomach, it’s hard to describe, that’s where the bloating is too. The pain moves around from side to middle to side. Once the bloating has gone I am left with such a sore stomach I can only describe it as my stomach has been scraped with a spoon!!

My symptoms got worse the end of May. They were going to see if they could do another Colonoscopy sooner than the one I already had lined up but no date due to Covid. Instead I got a call yesterday to go back to the surgical assessment unit on 9th July for a review. Not sure what's happening to be honest and I've been running a low grade fever for a few days with not only gut pains but a headache too. This morning I had a test for Covid. I'm pretty sure it's not but I have no idea why things are like this.
