Bisacodyl dose

Hi folks. Following advice from my consultant, I have been taking 20 mg bisacodyl twice per day for the last five weeks since I was discharged from hospital. I am concerned about side effects though haven’t been suffering from nausea or vomiting. Does anyone have any views?

I have had to take Bisacodyl for the last 40 years . Usually only 15 mg's but I recently came off of a grossly mis prescribed muscle relaxer ( for yet another facet of my gut condition ) and now have to take between 40 and 50 mgs 10 mgs per hour at night . Just a crazy amount . Its either that or get blocked so ... I have a severe motility/nerve conduction problem I was born with . I am 56 and yes you will sometimes get very intense cramps and nausea . I do not have much of an issue with this anymore because I do not eat anything solid after I take it . Still though sometimes it will still do that . I just try to ride it out , it will stop . In my case I don't have much choice .

I have been taking 2 in the morning n 2 in the evening to help my constipation, n I still don’t go to the bathroom every day. I take along side MgOxide! That is the Best! I take a few pills of this and my colon is good to go. If you are worried about taking them, just think of the consequences of constipation, soooo many. One is called Autointoxication, which is the major cause of diseases. Just think about this, you leave leftovers in your frig for days, when you do not eliminate, the food is sitting there!

There is no side effect with this medicine except Diarrhea, so you will have to find the right dose that works for you. Good luck

Is MgOxide magnesium? Which helps you with constipation Bisacodyl or MgOxide? How long have you been taking Bisacodyl?

Thank you.

As a pharmacist and carrier of IBS-C, I must say that among the available laxatives bisacodyl should only be used in extreme cases and not as continuous use unless prescribed by your physician.

Bisacodyl acts by stimulating the gastrointestinal nervous system , which are already stimulated in IBS syndrome which can contribute to enhace sensibility of intestines.

I have suffered for years with ibs-D however recently I have been having constipation. My consultant has prescribed bisacodyl which scares me as I don't want to make myself ill. I am unsure if these are the right tablet for me. Can you advise me?

Hello, have you tried prune juice (the bottled one from Holland and Barretts), the other types of prune juice bought elsewhere do not work as well. I take 150mls for my IBS C, and this keeps me regular. You can take more to find the right usage for you. Hope this helps.
