Hi, Was just wondering if maybe anyone has experienced spasms in the top left of the bowel? I have had a lot of stress recently and suffered with stomach problems! Had trapped gas one night in top left under rib cage, went into bad spasm and since then I wake up every morning getting spasm in this area. Been to docs he put me on mebeverine but not having much effect. Any help would be great thanks.

If IBS is confirmed, then you will need to start monitoring your daily diet with a diary to see if you can isolate the trigger(s). Avoid green veg like broccoli, cabbage, kale and cauliflower. Eat slowly, sit up at a table, don't slouch eating in front of the TV, don't eat large meals. Some sort of food intolerance is likely to be the cause, try changing your diet gradually.

Meberverine is not intended to be taken continually, so you need to manage your IBS.

A non prescription solution for me is Colpermin, it is worth a try.

Needs a bit of patience and time!

After awhile you should be able to build up a knowledge of what foods you should avoid. Everyone is different, although there are common triggers. Some people can’t eat onions, yet onions are fine for me!

Just tackle it calmly, stress and anxiety will make it worse.

Millions of people have IBS.

You just have to work out what is best for you, and don’t try and cover it up, be open about it.

Lots of info on line and on this site.

Agree with Fuv38. If you can be open and honest about it, it removes a source of stress. I'm ok with onions too as it happens. But as we are always saying on here, different strokes for different folks, so you have to work at finding what is best for you. You could start a food diary to see if anything specific sets you off. Also useful for showing the GP that you might have an intolerance or allergy to something.

Hi there. I experience this all of the time. Its very unpleasent. I have just turned 30 and for years ive had no support or help with this. Everyday im in pain although i do know what foods to avoid. Peppermint teas and capsules do help me ever so slightly (not alot) but i know different things help different people. It affects my everyday life. I suffer with anxiety also so i know that has a part to play in all of it.

I used to get that pain really badly but it has virtually disappeared since I have been following the low FODMAP diet. High FODMAP foods include onions, garlic, wheat, lactose, pulses and beans and many fruits (particularly apples). It is difficult to get your head around initially but there are Apps to use as guidance. I would check out the Monash Fodmap app. It has definitely helped me
