Colonic irrigation for fecal impaction
Yes, I have. This was about 5 years ago. My first experience was very painful, not during the procedure but after on the toilet. I had a lot to get rid of. Then 11 more times ongoing for 18 months. Initially it really did help and I was far more comfortable although not a cure as I was continually backing up. It didn't stop me getting constipation. Very expensive and as treatment went on it wasn't as effective I felt at the time. I feel now I wish I continued as the laxatives I was given by the g.p. were a disaster and ive ended up with a weak bowel and more problems than I originally had, which cant be reversed but the medical profession insisted if I didn't continue with their treatments instead they would wash their hands of me, hence no choice. Big mistake. I had a good experience of colonic but ive heard and read others where they've ended with perforated bowel. That's frightening and gives more problems then helps. I had a very good consultant but I researched extensively first. IBS is truly a curse!
I would do colonic again but as a one off but I know for the expense it doesn't long term solve a persistent issue. I guess each persons experience is different. Consider very carefully first if you decide to go for it. Research who you go with and dont feel you have to keep going back unnecessarily. Stay in control of your treatment and dont have expectations of a cure but as an aid to ease a stubborn back up of faeces. It could for some I guess actually be the answer they've been looking for but not for me overall. Hope this helps.
Thank you for your reply how do you manage now
I try and manage my condition as best I can having tried so many things. At the moment I take magnesium citrate and keep a strict diet of foods that doesn't upset the balance of my gut (years to work out that one). Albeit I still have problems and it really gets me down sometimes, I try and stay positive and take each day as it comes. Yoga has been helping me with my lazy gut. Ive excepted after many years I can only do my best and never give up trying for improvement. Seems to be with me for the long term. Im less stressed about it now and that means I can manage it better.
