Hi

I've been prescribed Mebeverine and told to only take when I have IBS? Pain, with paracetamol. I think it does help but sometimes when pain is really bad, paracetamol is not really strong enough. I have been advised I can take co-dydramol but haven't tried this yet. Can anyone advise on how often they take Mebeverine. Thanks x

I only tend to take it when have a flare up. Usually take 2 initially then every few hours until things settle down. I also take cocodamol for the pain.

Thanks jules2105, 2 doctors have given me conflicting advice but I'd rather only take when needed.

Hi, I was told to take one 20 mins before meals. I did this for a long time with variable success but am not keen on reg medication so now just take when I have a flare up. I think it helps taken in this way.... good luck :)

Hi Magz5,

I've been taking 3x a day for around 2 years now. I take about 30 mins-1 hour before breakfast, lunch and dinner. And it has saved me. My stools are solid in the mornings now and I sometimes only have to go once in the morning. Before meb,id be going up to 10 times in a day. I did lower my dose, only taking one before breakfast and dinner but I found my stools wernt as solid the next day. I'm happy to continue taking for how ever long. It's a safety net for me to be honest. I can now eat out or eat in front of others and I don't feel anxious because I'm fearing that my ibs will flare up. My doctor prescribed me it to prevent the flare ups, rather than only using it to settle a flare up. And it's worked wonderfully for me.

Best of luck to you.

Hi, thanks for your reply and I'm pleased that you've found something that's helped and given you confidence. I think mine is IBS C, which is not being able to go.... the doctor said if I took them all the time it would relax the bowel too much and make me even more constipated!!! But the other GP advised every day!!

Hope you keep feeling ok..Maggie x
