Anyone else suffer when they think it's a wee you need go to the loo and runny poo comes out your bum too?? Sorry to write it so to the point I am just totally fed up of this 'it's just IBS' diagnosis!! When I'm like this it totally makes me scared to leave the house!! Xx
Yes, I get this a lot. But most of all when I drink coffee (usually the "instant kind" works better than the brewed..don't know why). Coffee is a natural laxative. I suffer from severe and chronic constipation. Nothing seems to work, fiber, supplements..except Coffee, and a weekly stimulant laxative (Senna). Even daily stool softeners don't do too much. Makes stools easy to pass..but I still strain..and don't produce much. Not sure what to do at this point and I get ignored and dismissed by uncaring Gastros. I am running late to my Doctors appt, because I know I have to go four times in less than 1/2 bour to run to bathroom with loose stools. It's making me more late because I disinfect the toilet after every bowel movement and use Clorox wipes on seat. (I'm very clean..lol..maybe ocd, I know). But I like my toilet sparking in case someone - guest needs to use it. Which takes even more time..only to have to "go again" clean, and race to get in shower. I used to never have loose stools after coffee. I may be using too much "instant" for a couple of mugs. Now I feel I have to go again! 5th time. 😳. This is no way to live. I get angry at God sometimes for not answering my prayers to heal and having to suffer like this for years..I'm starting to think there is no God. Tired of this.
Yes I'm approaching my fourth rush this morning! All I want to do is go up town for my prescription but this seems to be ruling me too! People I talk to say to try to overrule it! But how can we when the physical feelings are very very real?? I too am running out of time as I have school pick up to do on a couple of hours and I need to go into town first! Guess I'll just have to hope and pray im ok!! I never suffer constipation , always always totally loose stools! Nothing firms mine up! Really
Feel like I'm loosing control of my bowels too, I hate this too, it's sooooo gets me down! Xxxx

any tricyclic drug mostly firm things up ..but then you get constipation which is relatively for me better than the dreaded D !!
if i have to suffer anyways ..i will choose the constipation over the D as you feel more in control and don't have to worry about "accidents "
if no drug worked for you , you may try to test for a condition called " Bile Acid Malabsorption " ( BAM) ..it causes lots of diahrrea even without pain ..there is a special test for this in the U.K .. i forgot its medical term, but you can ask your doctor about it ..its worth looking into it because the treatment is simple and effective with just a special pill targeting this specific type of Diahrrea ..it's an anti cholesterol pill that binds the excessive bile acid in the colon and stops its Laxative effects.

Hey! I'm on escitalopram, no idea if It is a tricylic drug! I have no pain with mine so will look into bile acid malapsorption! To be fair I don't have it everyday! But i do get it several times a week!! Thyroid was ok last time it was checked ! Xx
Yes! Thank you! Someone else knows about bile acid malabsorption! Have your doctor prescribe either Welchol or Colestipol (the 2nd one is cheaper over here in the US). They both stop diarrhea immediately! I use Colestipol every single day, and have been very please with the results...no more diarrhea.

Well..my doctor didn't do any test...I just told him that I had had chronic diarrhea for years and that it was ruining my quality of life because I couldn't leave my home. I was actually the one that researched it and suggested that he prescribe it to me...just to see if it would work! Worked WONDERS!!! Good luck...keep me posted..I am "rooting" for you!
I have used cholestyramine sachets for bile acid malabsorption for years, it is also Questran here in U.K......on prescription. I think my body has got used to it, but worth trying.
I know. Only thing that helps me with that is prescribed Bentyl or Levsin..but it says to take 30 minutes before a meal and at bedtime. But I also have IBS-D at times and now I don't know what really sets me off. Coffee would make me go..but never loose stools like I am experiencing now. I see another Gastro on the 18..and I have to fill out 4 papers before I go to give it to him at his office. It only gives me three tiny lines to "describe my symptoms" and I have so many, I have no idea what to put, my bowels can look pretty yuck at times..when I go..I don't want to write this on paper. It's a frustrating situation..
So true ! Regarding people saying to " overrule it " as if this issue is under our control ! they don't understand that it's the other way round , we are under the control of his Majesty King " Colon" ..this shows how the majority still don't fully understand the dilemma and the real physical struggle of IBS.
My mom always telling me " you give it too much attention ..try not to think about it ..the more you think of it the more you feed the Beast ! so just stand up and don't sit for a long time on the toilet you will trigger your body more 😣
my answer to her is how the hell can i stand up and leave the toilet if the ( second , third , fourth ..etc ) rush is coming on the way with, as you said, strong physical urge and sensations which i can't ignore or "Not think" about it ?!! it's just a matter of time for the next episode to strike and throw its load on us ..we know this based on experience 😥 but exactly when ?? this is the tricky part , unpredictability, which can differ daily and prevent me from making plans or even arrange doctor appointments .
Not only do we have to struggle with the ibs symptoms in general , but also have to deal with the frustration of people throwing the cause and blame on us.. as if we are guilty of bringing illness to ourselves 😡😤

i didn't understand as you said you suffer from chronic constipation but then have loose BMs several times a day ? you mean that you have Alternate ibs ?? like one week constipation then the next week diahrrea ??
No, just lately when I drink coffee.
Coffee and lactulose work for me to... always constipated but coffee will have me running to toilet

I think I did try the Colistipol once, and it constipated me. 😳. I can give it another try. Thanks..👍🌹
Yes..sometimes that can happen. I'm taking 6 a day..3 in the morning and 3 in the evening. Sometimes that's a bit much, so I'll cut to 5 a day. You can adjust the dose.
