Hi everyone. I have been getting symptoms for IBS for a few months now and gp has given me some buscopan to try. I am completely new to all these horrid symptoms. Any relief ideas? And when do I take the medication? Help please

Hi. Main symptoms are bloating..generally feeling sluggish. Lots of wind. And cramping esp after certain foods.(really need to make a note of these) constipation one day.. or urgency to have a bowel movement often other days 😔

My advice is dont take any meds as there all pretty useless ! Sorry but they are.

Generally ur prob find making ur guts health good is better way to go.

Ie dont eat foods that are well known gut irritants ie onions, garlic, bread, pasta....

mayb go gluten free for week see if that helps... mine went after 30

Years after giving up gluten? So obv all these years ive had a intolerance to gluten and i never knew.

I also take probiotics and digestive enzymes every day without fail. One for gut health the other to help digestion.

Wind 💨the best thing for this is peppermint capsules... everyday.

Try not to have to much yeast as it just feeds bad bacteria in belly no bread or beers.

I have had ibs since i was 5 years old and tried every medication goin nothing worked until i eventually listened to it.... what it didnt like what made it hurt what made me bloat and just gave it all up!

No IBS anymore!

Aw thanks hun.thats all really useful

All the foods I like eh..typical!

Peppermint capsules? Rather than tea? As I've heard people talk about that? And where can I buy peppermint capsules? Does that stop the wind altogether (It's so embarrasing 🙈)

Probotics? Just the supermarket drinks..

Sorry complete novice here! 👆 loads of questions...sorry xx

My doctor recommended actimel. Peppermint capsules every morning from Holland and Barrett or asda too

Yeh tell me about it i was a right foodie before all this... on the plus side i am 2 stone lighter.

I was bloated all the time whereas now im never bloated, it even helped my periods and headaches.

Peppermint capsules i buy extra strength ones from holland and barratt there cheap take one in morning and evening💨💨💨should just stop!

The digestive enzymes and probiotics should help with the wind and ibs as it will put good gut bacteria in and the enzymes will help ur gut breakdown food. I get mine from natures best, cheap and good

Try silicogel what it does it renders harmful pathogens harmless I use it now instead of pills and it's probably the best thing but...... When you swallow it turns into a thick flour consistency which will make you gag and possibly turn your stools pale

Hi where would I get silicogel hun?

Go to a pharmacy and ask for it they have it behind the counter

Try duspatalin it’s not a pain killer you take it as a treatment and it relaxes your bowel from the spasm. Take one as soon as you wake up, another half an hour before lunch and half an hour before dinner.

I've tried 4 pieces of chopped fresh ginger and 1 drop of peppermint oil boiled water let it stand for 5 mins and drink it b4 bedtime. It worked less bloating and nausea feeling. Hope it works. 🙈😁.

Buscopan didn't work for me so I asked GP for Mebeverine. That is working much better to relieve symptoms. There are no known side effects.

I was told i had IBS about 4 years ago i still have buscopan and can have up to 8 tablets a day. I tend to take mine when i feel out of sorts, i hit it hard by taking 8 tablets during the day after a couple of days it tends to settle down.

I also dont drink caffeine, only pepermint tea (THE GOOD ONE'S) proper tea leafs, and green tea. A little piece if stem ginger also works. Not knowing your symptoms its hard to advice but plain food for a few days also helps.

I hope this helps - i was told by my GP 8 tablets is the maximum per day.

Thank you. This is what I was unsure of...wasn't really explained by my gp of how to take them. So wasn't sure if I was meant to take before meals e.g. or just when symptoms arise.

This is all very confusing xxx

Hi,

I found that, while Buscopan worked to relieve the pain spasms, it made me feel a bit weird and gave me discomfort such as a dry mouth and mild stomach ache.

I found that Colpermin was just as effective, with none of the side-effects. Also, rightly or wrongly, I see it as a ‘natural’ product, not a chemical, as it’s just peppermint oil.

I realise that some ‘natural’ products - aspirin (salicylic acid - came from willow trees)/cannabis - are quite powerful!

I take one Colpermin every two days, first thing in the morning on an empty stomach - you may need to take more, at least to start with - up to one before each meal.

Hope that helps!

Yes I'm sure this is the first stuff I brought from the chemist and it did ok. But wasn't sure if it's something you can keep taking long-term? Xx

I’m sure it’s OK, but you could check with a pharmacist - I’ve been taking it for over 10 years now without incident!

All the best.

Anyone with constipation. If diet doesn’t fix it ask for a defecography to see if you have a prolapse.

Check out Enterosgel, so many people with IBS swear by it as it helps from first days and really makes the difference. Just found their new video that explains how it works. It is drug-free and effective!!youtube.com/watch?v=SMM1Ht8...
