Constipation help (over a week) (tmi poop talk!)

Hello

I wondered if anyone had any quick fixes for a particularly bad blockage?!i am going crazy with pain and fullness. I am normally always on the constipated side, but this time it’s really quite bad. I am waiting for an appointment with a specialist following a laparoscopy for endometriosis showing that I had a significantly enlarged and loopy colon.

I have not been properly in over a week, the last time was Tuesday and it was more “overflow” than proper poop.

I take 6-8 laxido a day and have for over three years now. I also take magnesium citrate at bedtime, and have been having two dulcolax the last four nights just to try and force things out but I don’t even have the urge to try. I am hugely bloated and have bad pain in my back and across my lower abdomen. I have been drinking gallons of water and usually drink at least 3l a day anyway and my diet is really good, so I don’t know why it has gotten so bad this time. Oh; I’ve also tried an enema and suppositories which have produced the tiniest amount of poo and a lot of mucus (sorry!). My colon is slow to work anyway; for my last colOnoscopy I started the prep a full 24 hours early and it didn’t kick in until 3 hours before I was due in! I normally can make light of it but I am honestly getting to a stage where I wonder if I can live my life like this forever - I am young and my life revolves around my bowel. I had my endometriosis removed and have had a short time of lessened bowel issues (a cyst was pressing on it which made t all worse) but now it just seems to be as bad again. :(

Have you been checked for bowel cancer or pancreatic cancer you sound like what my mum is going through she has just been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer hope not though Gail

Hi Gail, so sorry for you and your mum. I have had a colonoscopy which ruled out the bowel and other than bowel problems I don’t really have any of the pancreatic symptoms, my blood tests are all ok and my weight remains healthy. I am also in my 20s and understand that bc and pc are very rare in my age group. I am seeing a consultant soon to explore what else could be wrong but as far as I am aware, these things have been ruled out xx

Hi snowy13

I drink something called slimatee - its basically a green tea, im not mad on it hot but i let it cool down a lot and its more pleasant for me but definitely helps keep me going! I tend to drink half of one two days running and my system copes with that as drinking a full one unsettled me to begin with. Its worth a try as it has helped me manage my IBS xxx

I try and take lactulose when I know I’m working at home as I can just wear big comfy clothes and get through the pain lol but I haven’t got chance to do that this week. I am same with diet I eat very well lots of fibre and veg and not much “rubbish” but can’t work out what triggErs me or if it even is food related at all! Xx

Try a very long walk.

Maybe stay off food for a day?

Hope I'm not stating the too obvious.

Not at all, sometimes the obvious things are the last we think of! I am going to go onto a light liquid diet if I don’t have any luck today; I am just an eternally hungry person so it’s last resort :)

Sounds like a good plan.

Hope you get more settled soon.

Hey, I also get severely constipated and I always go for movicol and duphalac when it’s really bad!! Movicol is a powder and you mix with water and you can drink up to 3 sachets a day and it’s also great for long term!!

Duphalac is like a heavy kind of gel like texture and you just take a teaspoon.

I’m pretty sure these have to be prescribed by your doctor but they’re totally worth it.

Also when for the pain I take colpermin which is a peppermint capsule and I also take buscopan which takes the pain away in 15 mins for awhile!!

All so worth it.

Hope you’re ok x

Hey thanks, I hadn’t heard of duphalac before so will look into that. Movicol is the same as laxido, I take 8 a day anyway 🙈 even when not bad!! I take peppermint capsules but haven’t tried buscopan for a while and have some strong stuff prescribed so might try that as I do have bad bloat from it which is not the nicest feeling! Thanks for your advice xx

I have exactly the same.... I don't go unless I use laxatives (dulcolax) and can take up to 20 at a time! I then have the most incredible heartburn and indigestion before it eventually takes effect so if you find a solution please do let me know! good luck
