Hi , I’ve had ibs for 13 years and recently I’ve given up alcohol , due to depression and anxiety, I’ve been drinking non alcoholic becks and I’ve had very loose stools for nearly 2 weeks so bad that I’m some cases I’ve had accidents ! I’m living on Imodium as I’ve just started a new job and I really love it I just want to feel normal and not worry about going to the toilet , can anyone help?

I haven't got any advice, I am sorry but just to let you know I take imodium most days, to either get to work or even to go shopping. I hate it but at least I can get on with my life. I would say though the low alcohol drinks don't suit me either, maybe something in the ingredients? In relation to being normal, I say that to myself most days, I would love to swish around with no care about where the nearest toilet is, just wanted you to know that you are not on your own.

I gave up taking immodium as it stopped working. Maybe with the non alcholic drinks or low alcohol might be high in yeast? Have you ever tried Fybogel? My dr gave me it when immodium stopped working to harden up my stools. Im a lucky one, i know what triggers my ibs so i avoid it at all costs. Only a few changes to my diet until something new comes along to trigger it. I suffer anxiety aswell and im also lucky i know my triggers for that, it doesnt make it any better though. I can honestly say though the less you think of a situation the better it becomes, i understand how hard that is but i have to force myself. Focus on the fact that your new job is amazing and push your ibs to the back of your mind. You can do it. Good luck with everything and keep going

I have IBS d. I drink 1 bottle of Light beer per day. (coors or bud lite). My Fodmap dietician told me that beer is a no no. I told her It makes my stomach feel a little better and that it does not make my IBS worse. She said many patients have told her the same thing. and she is just not sure what is going on, but can keep doing it.

I think I’m going to stop drinking it to be honest the gas is just to much for me I really want someone to give me a magic pill and my stomach to be good just for one day 😂

Might be the gas as you say. I can't even drink fizzy water these days without getting uncomfortable.

Hi, sorry you are having problems, I've had a long battle with ibs and it's still going, one thing I have found is that clear spirits like vodka and gin, with a slimline tonic are much easier to tolerate, obviously as long as you don't go mad on it. Any time I drink beers I am all over the place with my ibs for days after. Good luck

Hi

If ur gona give up alcohol it best to just give it up fullstop. I had same prob ibs for years and gave up drinking and i took up alcohols free beer and i got worse!

When i saw a gastro she explained it coz it has more sugar and yeast and gluten in it which makes u worse so this is what could b ur prob. So i just gave it up and bobs ur uncle no more problem.

I still flare with garlic , onions , gluten and dairy but i have now cut all that out to and not had a flare for about 4 months, used to b once a week

I agree with Lulububs...i also gave up all of the above an finds my ibs a lil more controlled...i tried a lil kinda detox first like a fasting to get rid of everything out my system but was hungry at night so ate a lil something to keep me going...after about 2 to 3 days restarted with out all of the above an tummy troubles are alot less now...good luck woth what ever u choose to do xx

It hard work but it case of “ do i wana b ill forever or feel normal”?

So i chose normal.

I still drink but odd occasions and i tend to stick to vodka or gin and slimline tonics... im pretty good with that.

Beer so bad it just full of gluten and yeast which is just fermenting in gut it not even the alocohol it them that make u ill

Wow, I’ve lived this scenario for years. There is no magic cure. The more you worry the more the anxiety takes over. The more anxiety the more stomach issues. Vicious cycle. I personally find that doing something, anything, takes my mind off of it. Just like panic attacks. If I get busy I find my breathing is fine, when thinking about it all day I feel like I am not getting air and dying. Mind over matter ( no pun intended). This all helps but does not cure the problem. Bad days are just that, a bad day and I drink lots of water, forge ahead and deal with it.
