Hey I have had IBS for over 10 years, but after a flare up that crippled me in 2017, I finally got to see a consultant and have further tests. The consultant has prescribed me amitryptaline (sp?) as apparently in a low dose it can really help. I took the first one last night, and I have to say, my stomach feels less bloated this morning, and as yet, no diarrhoea. The only issues I have is that a, I still feel really sleepy and b, that my hands seem to be a bit shaky. Has anyone else been prescribed this and had similar reactions?
Hello: Hey :) I have had IBS for over 10 years... - IBS Network
Hello
I was put on it years ago for my IBS 25mg tablet and it knocked me out for a whole weekend. Reduced to 12.5mg but I was still sleeping all the time, couldnt drive or go to work on it. I cant remember having shaky hands on it but everyone is different. I had to come off it as I would never have got back to work and thats just not an option but it did ease symptoms...shame about the side effects.
I took 10mg Saturday night, and I have been a waste of space ever since. I slept on and off all through Sunday and I can't seem to function properly even now. I can't see me taking this for too long.
Ah no, I honestly dont know many people who can function on them, so you're definitely not alone there. Doctors dont seem to consider that people still need to be able to go about their day to day lives such as work, school runs etc and cant be comatose all the time. Why dont you try taking 5mg(I used to just cut my tablets in two)and see how you are on that dose? Also give it a little time if you can to see if your body adjusts to it-some people do, some people dont. I was on morphine for a little while and for the first few weeks I was really sleepy/spaced out but after that my body seemed to adjust.
