Is it IBS?

I was diagnosed with IBS when I was 6 years old. I am now 25 and have never really suffered that much from IBS. It has only been over the course of the past 12 months that I have gotten very bad. It has gotten to a point where everything I eat is causing me to have horrendous pains in the middle of my stomach (like someone is trying to rip my insides out). I spend a lot of time on the toilet, either spending up to an hour or spending hours going to the toilet every 5 minutes. I also get shaky very bad. To the point where my whole body is viscerally shaking and I am unable to stop it.

I have cut certain trigger foods out of my diet, however I don't think there is a key thing causing it. For example, last night I was sat playing on my phone around 7:20pm and all of a sudden had a horrible pain in my stomach and the urge to go to the toilet. I had not eaten anything since 12:30pm when I sat and ate my lunch (my normal of chicken wraps, cucumber and raisins)

I have had all of the blood tests at the drs to rule out any underlying conditions (crohn's, celiac ect). I have taken all kinds of medication (Buscopan, Colifac, Peppermint tablets) and nothing seems to be working.

My drs have now refereed me to a specialist as they think there is something more going on other than IBS but they can't seem to get to the bottom of it. It is also having a major effect on my work as I need to take time off when I have an upset stomach and also on my social life as I am too afraid to go anywhere in case I have an attack.

Just wondered if anyone else had any similar experiences around this and if anyone can offer advise on pain management?

Hi, Just reading through your post, I get shaking in the toilet myself. I think it is a nervous reaction for me because I get it when I think I am at the end of it but am scared of coming out of the toilet because I don't want to go back to toilet again and I know how awful I feel if I don't get it all out at that stage. I am afraid I have no idea how to stop it though, I wish I did. My husband thinks that NLP might help. Also like you I am often in unbearable pain but have not found anything to get rid of it. At it's worst (once I get out of the toilet) I go and sit down and just hold my breath and try to keep very still. Maureen.

Hey

I dont know if u tried goin gluten or dairy free or a diary to see what starts it off?

I wasnt coeliac but i decided to try goin free from and as soon as i did my symptoms started to go, my dr explained that just coz ur not coeliac u can still be severely intolerant so dont just think that coz tests are ok u are.

I also cut out garlic, onions, apples and halved my meals, so i eat little and often. Sometimes ur body cannot digest food or so much so if u have smaller meals it easier to go through without it getting upset and trying to get it out body as soon as poss.

With the free from bit just do it for a week and see how it goes! And smaller meal

I have tired cutting a lot of foods out of my diet, including dairy and gluten. I have kept several good diary’s and have not noticed any patterns between what I am eating and when I have attacks 😢

Thats a bummer. Try the small meal thing , so ur not overloading ur digestive system. See if that helps u.

Also the supplements get some good gut bacteria in there as it may not b food it mayb candida/sibo. Then nothing else is goin to help u but supplements. Cutting out sugar and yeast( as thats what feeds it).

Hi there, Lazza, I am just so sorry for what you are going through. Have the Drs ever performed a scan or an ultra sound or x-ray of your stomach area?? Have you had a colonoscopy? To me, it sounds like an ulcer in your stomach area...its just hard to believe that Drs haven't considered that, though, and checked for it. That much severe pain does NOT sound like ibs to me.. Please don't lose heart, somehow in some way...you WILL find the answer! Let's just hope it hurries up, right? Right! A big hug to you.
