Advice please- I’m fed up!!

My IBS is so out of control at the minute. The stomach pains are unreal, eventually relieved by a hot water bottle and buscopan. I am going days not going to the toilet and then 7 times in one day. I always feel sickly, bloated and have indigestion. I have anxiety related to my IBS and a fear of sick so as you can imagine, it has a knock on effect on my panic attacks etc.. (4 hour one last night). I am currently doing a food/symptom diary yet again. I don’t eat wheat (not gluten) and I’m currently cutting out dairy. Not noticing either making that much of a difference. I’m noticing a bit of a pattern when I eat tomato (chopped, pizza, ketchup) and it giving me an upset stomach. Anyone else have this? And possibly peppers too. I’m sorry for the long post I’m just so fed up and feel like I’m getting nowhere and don’t want to live like this anymore. Calling doctors tomorrow morning. Xx

I too have found tomatoes a problem, both cooked and raw. Some people suggest eating without the skin. Just a thought some sugars and additives like sorbitol and garlic powder and whey products hidden in processed food an all have an impact. It is really tedious studying packets all the time but may be worth it. Bland simple foods are best.

Hope you feel better soon.

Good luck 🍀

I feel like all I ever eat is bland simple food ahah! I’m glad I’m not the only one it makes bad. I am no good with onions and garlics but can sometimes tolerate the powders depending on the strength of the taste. Didn’t realise onion powder was in tomato ketchup though. I think I’m going to start looking into all the different sugars etc... thank you!

Hi, I have the same problem, although lately seems like everything hurts when I eat..like all my intestines start spasming, pain, etc. Had Colonoscopy. Was told Colon healthy ?? Just had IBS..which I feel means my colon is not healthy. They said I did not have ulcerative colitis, diverticulitus, rectal prolapse, etc. I have lost so much weight because I can't eat like I used to because of cramping and severe constipation..which nothing helps except for a stimulant laxative (which probably is even more damaging) I was just prescribed Bentyl. It is relieving Rectal, intestinal and abdominal spasming and diarrhea episodes (except when I take a laxative). I am lactose intolerant. The other day, I was feeling brave, and ate an ice cream bar..and no cramping or running to the toilet. I have also heard great things about peppermint oil softgels, I think you can buy them online. I also have anxiety and panic attacks, and Bentyl Had reduced my anxiety and panic attacks to where I feel I no longer need my Anxiety meds as much. It has also Helped with insomnia related to stress and anxiety over health concerns.

I’ve seen a lot of people mention Bentyl so think it’s definitely worth mentioning to the doctor. I’m scared to try peppermint oil as I remember having them a few years ago and them giving me really bad indigestion. Perhaps worth another go though as my body may react differently to them now. I’m sorry you’re in the position you’re in, hopefully you’re on the road to feeling better soon!

There is a good one on Amazon. It's the only that does not give me indigestion. It's called Peppogist Peppermint oil softgels. Fairly inexpensive. Has alot of great reviews as well..

Hi, hope you find it is related to a certain food or food group, it will make life much easier. It is a pain avoiding certain foods but better than being in the situation you are now...

I am dairy intolerant. Even tiny amounts like in margarine set off my IBS and the feeling I’m going to be sick.

You will learn which brands are ok to eat etc if it is food related and the checking of labels will get gradually easier.

Good luck

Yikes! Why are you eating margarine? One of the most toxic "foods" ever created. It amazes me that butter (ingredients: cream, salt) is made out to be bad, yet margarine, containing preservatives, emulsifiers, deodorisers, flavourings and colourings is deemed healthy.

Hi Charleywall, I have similiar attacks and have found that a multi felicitated approach is needed. Try taking Laxido, drinking water, relaxing and taking a combi cocktail of laxative just to get things going again. I also use golden linseed sprinkled on my cereal each morning.

Have you had your thyroid function tested as this can cause constipation? Have you tried Spasmonal as an anti-cramp?

Good luck

Hi I’ve suffered for years with this and eventually after taking buscopan and mebeverine my doc tried me on amitriptyline 10mg. I’ve been taking this for about 6 months and so far it’s been the only thing that works. The odd time when I eat something that I shouldn’t and I start to get pain I take co-codomol which really helps. Also I take Fibogel each day which helps the constipation but I would mention the amitriptyline to your GP. Hope you feel better soon 🌸

You could be Coeliac. Get the Doctor to do a blood test. You got nothing to lose.😉

Hi they say normally women get this but let me tell you I am a man and are suffering for 35 years now with this horrific i.b.s. My symptoms are very much like yours and sometimes I get so "gatvol" for trying this and doing that diet that I just go overboard and eat and drink what I want just to suffer even more. Our g.p.'s haven't got a clue how to deal with this. Someone told me to try Reiki or acupuncture or hypnosis. I did not try one of these yet. If I hear of a new medicine I buy it. I feel for you because this is a horrible condition. I have been put on anti depressants which also help a bit. It also help to not eating protein and starch together. I wish you all the best and hope that you feel better soon!!!
