Can anyone tell me how much flaxseed to take for IBS. Do you have it on cereal and will it help constipation. Thanks everyone!😊

Linseed alone does not help with constipation. Not for me anyway even if I take a few tablespoons.

You need to take a high amount of magnesium citrate or oxide. About 800 to 1200mg. I have had Ibs c almost my whole life. This is the best natural supplement to take for this condition and I have tried many. Even my consultant recommended it. I take it every day. You must take it on an empty stomach just before bed with lots of water. I would start with a high dose initially just to clear you out. Even if it means taking a few capsules. I sometimes take 6 200mg capsules. But you must find what is best for you. Capsules are the best not tablets and it has to be citrate or oxide as these are the ones that work for constipation. There is a lot of information about constipation and magnesium on the internet. The ones I take are either Now foods Magnesium citrate, Solgar Magnesium Citrate or Life extensions. I get mine from the US on a site called iHerb, but you can get them on Amazon. There are other magnesium oxide products specifically for colon cleansing called Mag 07, Colosan and Oxypowder. They are a bit expensive but are amazing. I use these in between. No cramps no bloating, just relief. You can get these on Amazon as well. Don't suffer any longer. By the way I also follow a low fodmap diet through a dietician but this alone does not help constipation.

Many thanks for your advice. I'm seeing my GP tomorrow so I'll chat with her about the magnesium. 😊😊

Being a women in my mid 50's I do believe hormonal activity has played a big part in my constipation so explore this side to with your GP.

Yes, I have taken flaxseed. You can buy it ground at the grocery store. I used to mix mine in juice, coffee, water. Once you get it home, make sure to put it in a tight sealed dark container in the fridge, because it tends to go rancid if not refrigerated. Sometimes, while refrigerated, you can smell it, to make sure it's fresh, it will last for awhile. Many people also prefer to but the seeds and grind it themselves. But I think the ground organic at the store is just as good. I have also heard that flaxseed oil is good too. Good for anxiety, stress, depression, heart health, constipation, etc. Good source of Omega 3 fatty acids that our bodies don't get enough of. If you suffer fromc constipation (like I do), it will help with that too. Keep us posted and let us know how it works.

Yes it does help with constipation. I put a spoonful on cereal, and drink glass of water afterwards.

I add a heaped teaspoon of mulled flaxseed and another of milked chia seeds to my morning porridge oats made with oat milk. It works for me.
