Sore muscles after severe cramps

Does anyone else recognize the following symptom. My current flare-up of IBS-M has gone on for several months, during which time my intestines have been permanently tight and on occasions I've had some excruciating cramps before needing the toilet. Now I can literally feel the muscles are sore just getting up from a chair hurts momentarily. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Hi there, I really sympathize with you. I am going through a IBS flare up post gut infection. Feeling sore stomach muscles is something I am noticing as well. Must relate to the twisting spasms in the muscle. My thoughts are with you. 😊😊

Hi, Thankyou for your kind reply. Yes the muscles get sore from the cramping. I find they hurt when I cough or sneeze.

I hope your latest flare-up doesn't last too long. It really is a horrible condition. Wishing you well 😊

Hi Skylark, I've had those cramps, not as long as you, but I know how rotten they are. I used to roll on the floor in agony with them! Perhaps the soreness is caused like the bruising feeling one has after cramp in the legs, you know it goes on for a few days. Can I suggest you look at the FODMAP diet on the internet, follow it for a few meals then if it helps get the book from the library. You have nothing to lose. I've been on it two weeks and it's made a tremendous difference. Good luck.

Hi Eastbourne11, many thanks for replying to my query. Severe cramps are really awful, although they only last a short while, but if like me, you get them often, it leaves the muscles incredibly sore and tender. I don't know if I mentioned but my IBS is not at all food related, but is very connected to stress and anxiety. I had a succession of stressful things last year, hence the start of this flare-up in November. The only things I can't eat or drink is strong coffee or spicy food, which is a killer! I've been given all the info about Fodmaps from Bupa. I have no problem with wheat or dairy, fortunately, but I do with the brain-gut axis!!

Wishing you all the best and thanks again for taking the trouble to reply. I'm assuming you are in Eastbourne - lovely town. Hope they've restored their lovely pier after the fire several years ago. I'm just along the coast in Worthing. 😊

Hi Skylark sorry to hear you are in so much pain. I know how it feels. I didnt know that IBS could be as debilitating as it is. Some people think its just a sore tummy with constipation or diarreha. Hope it dosent last much longer. Take care.

Hi moira22, yes you're absolutely right about people's perception of IBS, I have thought exactly the same. Having said that, it can be mild for some people and severe for others, in which case it certainly is debilitating and can have a negative impact on ones life.

I hope you're not in too much pain yourself. Personally I don't get any benefit from Buscopan or Mebeverine - the standard treatments here in the U.K. I've also discovered you have to be careful with probiotics.

Wishing you all the best 😊

I have been dealing with it since mid-October. Yes moving certain ways and such sends a shooting pain. I am the same it is brain-gut axis with me that somehow got set-off worse than it ever has in 15 years. It is comforting to know others have spells for months as I have been in quite a worry (which def doesn't help) but have had every test under the moon to rule out any other ailments. Have you tried Levsin or any anti-spas drugs for help?

Hi, sounds like you know exactly what I'm talking about. Horrid isn't it?! The anti-spasmodic, Buscopan and Colofac do nothing for me. I've never heard of Levsin? Is it available in the U.K.?

Dealing with it right now as I type this. I can also tell it is worse on days where I don't get quality sleep the night before. Dicyclomine or Hyoscamine are the drug names for Bentyl and Levsin so not sure about UK availability.
