Flexible sigmoidoscopy

Hi all.

So as you’ll all be able to see I’ve had some issues for a while now, and I went for a flexible sigmoidoscopy today to check things out.

Endoscopist found no ulcers or inflammation (although I will say it was so painful).

Although she did say she found a chronic anal fissure, gave me 4 syringes full of antibiotics, and has given my GP a copy of the sigmoidoscopy report so that they can prescribe an 8 week course of antibiotics for it. Endoscopist who carried out procedure will see me again in 8 weeks. I’m just wondering if anyone on here has any experience with anal fissure? She never gave me any instructions for the antibiotic syringes either 😕 I’m based in the UK btw.

I've never had experience with anal fissures but what I would do re the antibiotic syringes is phone your GP and say that you haven't been given any guidance on how to administer the syringe, ask him or her if they could provide some instructions. You really wouldn't want to administer the syringe incorrectly.

Thanks that was my thought, going to phone GP tomorrow tried phoning back the Hospital where I had it done but phone is just ringing out 😞

All the best with phoning your GP but I can't believe it that they sent you away without showing you how to use the syringe, that's very poor. You'll be able to get through to your GP.

She did show me how to use it, but she never said what dosage to use- just to use it 3 times a day and there’s 11g/ml in a tube x

That's not much help at all, you need to know the dosage x

I’ve found out dosage- half a syringe a time. Also just been told I can’t get medicine endoscopist prescribed for fissure as my GP says it’s ‘not licensed’. What 😐😐

Oh for goodness sake, you need something to help and clear it up, there must be something else that is licensed! Have you spoken to them about any other possible medication?

Also I’ve still got very watery/loose/diarrhoea bowel movements. I’m assuming that’s normal after a flex sigi, and can I take loperamide or something to stop this or is it best to leave it and let it run its course? I only say this as I’m back at work tomorrow afternoon 😞
