I've been quite unwell my past two cycles between ovulation and the period itself. In fact that's almost always when my IBS flare ups occur, but it was worse and more drawn out these past two times. Last month I had a lot of sharp nasty cramps, total loss of appetite, nausea, loose bowel movements and generally just feeling awful. I couldn't even get out of bed to join the family that were visiting. I had a blood test and a urine sample and everything was totally fine, and the symptoms gradually left over two weeks. I finally had a period after all that and it was very late. I've had scans on my ovaries and a swab taken and that was all fine.
I'm feeling awful again and I'm 10 days late now (not pregnant lol). Anyone else here feel like satan has settled into their uterus?
Apparently the body releases something called 'prostaglandins' which is what causes the uterus to contract. Those prostaglandins can sometimes cause the intestines to contract too.... which is doubly awful when you already have IBS. I've found one food that is said to reduce this activity: Pure Pomegranate juice. Mine is on its way, so I'll try it out and give an update. Raspberry leaf tea, taken twice a day, can gradually tone up your uterus to help reduce the cramps there. Walnuts, sweet potatoes, oats and zinc encourage a hormone called progesterone, which apparently eases cramps too. Having too much estrogen can make things worse so consumption of Magnesium, Vitamin B6, fibre, carrot, Omega 3, and cruciferous vegetables can help to regulate it.
That's the fruits of my research recently, I'm going to try it out till I find something that works. I really hope it helps someone here, too. I know how nasty it can be, and I know we can find some relief.
