Hey, glad you found out what it was! I have a twisty colon and have been on a diet for it for a few months now and I feel great. No bloating, nearly no pains and for the first time in my life I sleep through the night.

Every 1,5 hours a big motility movement sweeps through your colon. It's called the BMM (Big Mass Movement). If things get stuck somewhere it is this movement that causes a stress reaction after it doesn't get its way in 3 or 4 tries. I woke up after 4,5 hours of sleep, sweating and in pain. Every night, all my life. Now with the new diet I sleep 6 hours or even longer and have much more energy.

Ok, my diet has impacted my life and I'm currently teaching all the people I know that I have a different rhythm than they. So far everybody accepts.

The diet prevent build up of bulk or gas anywhere in the colon. (My problems are at the start of the colon: the ascending colon has many twists and later on there's a twist at the Hepatic Flexure). That means: no fibre, FODMAP and meals the size of 1 hamster (also liquids) and timing the food.

I get all my nutrients before 2 o 'clock in the afternoon. Maybe a little snack at 4 (broth). Nothing after 6 at night.

I mainly eat: chicken broth, white bread, full cream butter, chocolate, cake, creme fraiche, clotted cream, fish, banana and nuts (chew well!). Absolutely no onions, apples, whole grain, lentils because they feed the bacteria in the colon and produce a lot of gas. You'll find out your specifics as you experiment :)

I need to take into account the daily amount of fibre and gas producing foods. For example if I have one slice of white bread I can have a cookie. If I had two I cannot. If I have a herring I cannot have beef too. I found that the amount of fibre in one clementine is too much for one day, even if I eat nothing else. So "hamsters and clementines" are on my mind every day when I consider foods.

My colon doctor told me people only need fibre for colonic function, not for health reasons. If you poop regularly you don't need fibre.

Enjoy the new ways to health you found!

PS my diets are called "low residue diet" x "FODMAP" x "low tyramin" (nothing to do with IBS)

I have a lazy and twisty colon and ibs, i have had to totally change my diet it was best thing i have ever done.

I have taken out all spicey foods, alcohol( not totally) , gluten, dairy and sugar( halved amount i used to have) and i eat little and often so like u i have tiny meals and never eat after 7.

I also make sure i drink 2 litres of water through the day which keeps me regular....

i have lost 1.5 stone and i feel healthier i have no wind or indigestion anymore, my bowels are regular my skin looks great and nails and hair and i have no celluite anymore, my periods have got so much less heavier and painful it has changed my life.

I also take a probiotic, digestive enzyme, vitamin c and d and a candida tablet as i had a yeast intolerance. I take them 2 times a day 20 mins before i eat anything....

Hope this helps some people out there.

It hard work to start with as i was a sugar and junk food addict but now i would never go back to how i was ... U ARE WHAT U EAT!! Cheesy but true

Just a thought for you, Muddle. What could have made your bowel twisted, when it wasn't before?

I was told I had a long colon and that was why I was constipated. And a deformed "valve" that didn't close over my oesophagus properly and that's why I had reflux. I have beaten IBS and I now know these things had nothing to do with my IBS. All they did was made me stop looking for answers for a long time because I thought I had no way out.

I don't say I have all the answers but I would really suggest staying open. I have 2 articles that you could find interesting: sickofibs.com/ibs-symptoms/...

and this one on magnesium: sickofibs.com/diet/constipa...

Hope these help you,

Alison
