My daughter has been getting stomach cramps for the last 2 weeks, think her Ibs was triggered by a bout of food poisoning . Taking buscopan and mebevrine but mornings are a nightmare - has missed the first 2 weeks of College. Read somewhere that warm water and lemon helps going to try that tomorrow .Any suggestions welcome

Awww sending healing. I get this too it started when i was 17. I used to eat chocokate but chabged to carob which helped. Also aloe vera juice and cranberry. Eating and drinking small and often and slowly...what will be called mindful eating now. Its mostly living a healthy lifestyle.

Such a shame your daughter missed the first two weeks. But dont worry college staff are very sipportive and she will be able to catch up...she may not have even missed much. Every course my friend, family and I have been on are mostly induction activies and getting to know each other. Also, any new comers who missed the first inroductions was warmly welcomed.

Back to the physical if yoy geek.uou meed more help its worth her seeing another dr and an alternative therapist too. Peppermint tea is soothing especially when warm. Avoiding caffeine and sugar. Warm baths, relaxing aromatherapy scents, no stress, lots of love and support of mum and she will hopefully feel better.

I wouldnt do lemon as the acidity may inflame a already inflammed stomach .. ie vinegar anything like that.

Also may b worth u getting dr to perscribe omeprazole as they helped my husband after a bad case of KFC food poisoning that wiped him out for 3 weeks

Thank you .maybe will wait a few weeks . Thought I had read somewhere that lemon is good for Ibs.Did try and say to the doctor that we think was from possible food poisoning - wasn't so severe ,but do think has lead to last 2 weeks of major dis comfort. Was pushing the fodmap and some new app. Not great when one is in pain and looking for something a little instant

No lemon is not good really it to acid it can inflame instead of making u feel better i made this mistake with apple cider vinegar as someone that suffer with ibs someone told me to try it and i was sooo ill.

I use a good probiotic and take it 3 times a day half hour before food and i take a digestive enzyme. U can try aloe vera( make sure it all inner leaf) as that is great for internal inflammation. But i have had my husbands omeprazole a few times when ibs has been triggered by food and it worked a treat, mebervine and buscopan do not work for me at all.

Also i tried fodmap again did not work for me but i did find a few triggers( onions, garlic, all the norm) but i also went to a allergist and found out i was gluten and cows milk intolerant.. since then been pretty good

Hi, I agree with you about Buscopan and Mebeverine not working! In this day and age, you'd think that an effective antispasmodic would have been found by now. Possibly peppermint oil works better, but I'm restricted with taking it because I already have a weak sphincter valve, and peppermint relaxes it further thus increasing symptoms of GERD.

go back to your doctor if the medication doesn't suit ,

Hi there,

I personally found Spasfon a great help.

Just another thought for you. The food poisoning symptoms may actually be IBS starting up. Has your daughter been under particular stress or emotion over the past 6 months?

Hi Alison, yes had been doing A levels / results in summer.was a very stressful time - Now Missing college so not helping . What is spasfon have not heard of that one . Has been taking mebevrine for a week and buscopan for 2 - they seem to help . But always a dull pain , almost painful every time she eats .Sometimes more then others but then eases so think the tablets she is taking are helping evenings better . But every morning the cramps are back

Spasfon is an antispasmodic that I found to be easy to digest.

What went on during her A-levels seems to have been significant for her.

The fact that this started up at the start of college could be sparking off emotions of fear like not feeling she is good enough, feeling under pressure doing what is expected of her, too much competition, tired of studying all the time, maybe even wanting to do/study something else.

She may be putting herself under too much pressure. Sometimes as parents we also worry and put pressure on them without meaning to.

If she goes and sees a psychologist for a couple of sessions and is able to express all those emotions you may find a considerable difference.

She could also try this every time she has pain or is feeling stressed:sickofibs.com/well-being/a-...

Hope this helps,

Alison

Thank you . Very conscious of the stress , do try talk to about it .I personally think subconsciously was stressed about college .She is getting annoyed as wants to get on . As says tackling the study better , as prepared now.And in the good days she has studied enjoyed and keeping on top off as teachers emailing work to her .Take on board about seeing a psychologist - have just made another docs app will suggest we do this. Can spasfon be bought over the counter .

Hi there,

Sorry your daughter is going through this. I too suffer with chronic stomach cramps to the point where I am sweating and in tears. I am a 39 year old man lol. I found that tonic water and ginger tea helps. Just a cup of either before bed also eating linseeds too. Maybe give it a try ?

All the best

Shaun
