Hi There, I buy milled linseed from Aldi stores, I don't know where you live so you may not have them where you are, but any health shop will have it, I sprinkle it on my cereal, it works for me, about 2 tablespoons worth, good luck and stay well.

You'll have to try it and see - lots of people say it helps. It make my symptoms much worse though.

Best for Ibs C is magnesium citrate or oxide. I take about 800 - 1000mg at night on an empty stomach with lots of water. The only thing that helps. Linseed alone does not work. Look up on the internet. There is a lot of info on magnesium for constipation.

Thanks Pat 1. Will most certainly give that a try.

I went to a gastro specialist and he told me to have 2 tablespoons of unmilled whole brown linseeds a day sprinkled on probiotic yogurt a day. It has worked for me as well I cut out wheat, barley and rye ie mostly gluten free and my life has turned around.

Hi there, I soak around a dessertspoonful of linseeds in approximately a 3rd of a mug of water for an hour and then drink. Some people grind the seeds down and then soak them in the water.

This works really well for me but of course we are all individual.

Hi Deserie -

This is a tricky subject. Those who are helped by things like linseed, magnesium, MiraLAX etc. may have a very different type of constipation than the type from which you suffer. If you have a motility issue where the nerves do not fire on their own to create motility, then you need a different type of agent to move things along. I know this all too well as I fall into this category myself.

I suggest giving senna or senna-based tea such as Traditional Medicinals "smooth move" tea a try. Other agents will only bloat you and make matters worse for you if your issue is like mine. It is a very difficult problem to deal with, but also very different from the type of constipation (hard stool) others suffer from.

I take 250 gms of 0% fat greek yogurt with some honey and a few dried sultanas last thing at night. I also buy the free from nobbly granola for breakfast and put milled linseed from Aldi on. I assess how much to put on dependent on my current situation and sometimes don't need to have any. I have now found that I can eat normally during the day and have gone back to eating white bread (advised by the GP) yuk. I am now able to eat some fruit but not citrus or with stones. I still take the buscopan and merbeverine. This combination has made a big difference to my life. Its even better if I give food time to digest before racing around.

Hope you find what works for you - it has taken me years. Stress is a bit contributor with me interestingly it is the guilt part of stress as when I get stressed I feel guilty about not being able to meet the demands being made of me. This was a big revelation.

They have the milled linseed (flax) in Holland and Barrett and most health shops. And lots of different ones with different fruits, additives like goji berries.

I also have IBS/C. I have tried everything. I finally came across Chia seeds. I got the recipe on line. You put 1/3 cup of Chia seeds into 2 cups of water. In a container with a good lid. shake it. Put it in the refrigerator overnight. What I do is put a tablespoon full in a glass and fill it with water. I drink it. I do this sometimes two or three times a day. I have also started on a Probiotic after having to take antibiotics for an infection. The probiotic I use is called "Renew Life" Women's Care - Ultimate Flora Probiotic. It's just for women.

Good Luck!
