Have been diagnosed with post infectious sibo after semonella poisioning 8 months ago. Had a colonoscopy and endoscopy didn't reveal anything sinister.
So my symptoms are not really pain - and really didn't have alot of bloating although since changing probiotics and eating a little more my stomach is bloated a little.
I've been on low fodmap - special carbohydrate diet - have eliminated gluten dairy fructose and processed foods but haven't changed anything. Off beef as well now.
My bowel movement is just heaps of small pieces - from worms to pencils to somethings thicker but basically never a large solid movement like prior to the poisioining. I believe my gut lining has been damaged and now have been left with this.
I've read that my bowel movements might never go back to normal. Please let me know if someone else has presented with these symptoms. At least I know I don't have an obstruction in my bowel causing the thinner stools.
Just frustrating not to be normal. Please let me know if you have this.

I was diagnosed with ibs when i was 14 (im 38 now) but my symptoms changed and have gotten worse since i had norovirus in 2006. Having an illness that affects the digestive system can cause long term problems that will most probably never right themselves. I've learnt what i can and can't eat but it's forever changing and i now have to put up with unexpected symptoms constantly arising.
I had a bout of Salmonella back in 1996 and have had IBS C ever since and although for the first few years I kind of put up with the pain etc as I didn't know what else to do (the internet didn't exist then like it does now so you couldn't research into the condition back then like you can now). Since joining this forum I have come across heaps of advice in what to do but I have to say reading your post you are already looking into your diet and tried various things.
My IBS has changed a lot over the past year or so and I am now cutting out Lactose (I never thought I had a problem with Lactose until a couple of weeks ago or so) to try and eradicate the upset tummy I sometimes get and nausea.
I would read the blogs from Alison Simpson who is on this forum and her blogs are 'Alisonsickofibs', I'm pretty sure that will give you some comfort and encouragement.
Hang in there! I had many treatments for giardiasis when I lived in Papua New Guinea in the 1990s and I seemed to have almost perpetual diarrhoea. I had a "leaky gut" and tried cutting out different foods which I seemed to be sensitive to and eventually my body recovered. I was doing really well for several years till I had a major flare up and was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. It is so easy to think "this is it.......I am always going to be like this" and get really down but things can and do get better. If you can, talk to a FODMAP trained dietitian and eat foods to soothe your gut and reduce inflammation. Good luck with this.
hi thanks, I have tried the fodmap diet, still dairy free gluten processed foods, carbs alcohol free but didn't really do much. So i have just introduced some more small things back. I was still loosing weight so needed to increase a few things. Can't put on weight since this bout. I don't have diarrea persay just small pieces which i believe is ibs. Just wish it would go back to normal. Thanks for you reply.
