Hi, I was diagnosed with IBS-C by my gastroenologyist and was prescibed prucalopride to help with the consitipation. I still get a lot of bloating and a lot of pain, can anyone advise of any ways to combat the bloating?

IBS-C and prucalopride
Well, it's tough to manage, but I can make a suggestion...which I feel you'd do best to discuss with your doctors before trying...whatever, this has helped me to greatly reduce my bloating & distension & pain
First some background:
I'm 63 and on the way to being prescribed prucalopride due to IBSC-like slow transit dysmotility caused by my underlying comorbidities ( the immune dysfunction & connective tissue disorders: Ehlers Danlos hypermobility + infant onset lupus, early onset sjogrens + hypogammaglobulinaemia + various early onset gyn issues inc endometriosis)
Up until 20 months ago, I'd spent my lifetime managing my constant upper & lower GI issues via high fibre Low FODMAP diet & other self help techniques
20 months ago, due to complex factors, my lower GI distension, bloating and motility went haywire...and investigations by my local NHS Pelvic Multidiscipline team began
Now my colorectal surgeon & gastroenterologist & nutrition/dietetics clinic have me on the following daily treatment plan which is helping lots to reduce bloating & distension & pain:
- the non fermentable insoluble bulking agent methylcellulose (uk trade name: Celevac)...2 tabs early a.m. & 2 late afternoon
- an ultra low fibre diet (no raw fruit & veg, vvvv limited cooked fruit & veg...basically a pre endoscopy procedure diet)
- Ortis cube as stimulant: 1/2 cube before bed
- my daily meds from rheumatology clinic & immunology clinic also help my GI tract a lot (these include daily antibiotics indefinitely, which has reduced my chronic gastritis a lot (I have bowel bacterial overflow infection)
But perhaps you're already on a low fibre, low fermentables diet?
I hope something in there can help

I've just started on the same prucslopride. I've had a whole week of normality but today the bloating has returned, I'm hoping it's just something I've eaten. My doctor recommended Kolanticon gel, sold in most pharmacies. It has helped lots and I would recommend giving it a go. Good luck.
