Sigmoid diverticulitis : Hi I'm infopete and... - IBS Network
Sigmoid diverticulitis
When you feel the onset of pain etc stick to a low residue diet, ie: no fibre and bland wet foods like plain soups(no veggi bits in) and drinks. This will help your colon rest and the inflamation die down and after a few days if the pain gets better slowly introduce your normal foods in low amounts. If you want to avoid pain/flare altogether then don't eat anything with small pips or seeds, so no tomatoes, kiwi, strawberrys, blueberries etc and peel all fruit and vegetables before eating. Know what you can and can't eat(so keep a diary) and rest as much as you can at the first sign of a flare.
I've had diverticular disease for nearly 10 years now and everyday is a battle. Be careful with your fibre intake also as too much will make you constipated and too little can cause diarreah.
Sending hugs x
